hi
I have a 2001 Jayco tent trailer, with no battery. I would like to know
how to hook one up. I just want to run the lights in the trailer

Did it ever have a battery?
Does it have a converter?
Are you able to plug into a 110/120 volt circuit?

How do you run the light now??

Do you have white and black wires terminated with black electrical tape and secured in place where a battery tray is, or should be, on the tongue?

not sure
I bought the trailer last year. there was no battery
on it, I don't see wiring

Keep digging. There should be a black and a white wire tucked or cut off somewhere about the tongue. Probably under the lip of the bodywork.

I will ask again being you didn't answer

thank you for your help. I have not looked at the existing wiring yet, I have been
working. Will do so on the weekend, and update my findings

Also be aware if your trailer has ELECTRIC BRAKES then you are required by DOT LAWS to have a working on-board battery in the event the trailer becomes disconnected and becomes a run-away trailer. The on-board battery is required to apply DC power for the electric brakes to stop the trailer.

Not having a working battery system on the trailer equipped with electric brakes when being pulled over state roads is breaking the law and might go against your insurance claim if you have property damage or worse if the run-away trailer causes the damages..

Check with your local DOT guys or STATE SAFETY INSPECTION places. Most states have a weight size requirement for the trailers to be equipped with brakes. Also most states have a required safety inspection as well...

Just saying...

Hi, checked the wiring at the tongue. There is a white wire that is grounded
to the frame, and a red wire that runs t the back but has a "y" n it. My vehicle is wired a four pin plug. these to wires look like a thicker gauge. my trailer does run on ac, and looks like it has a converter.

IF your trailer runs on 110VAC then you do have a converter for the 12VDC circuits, but it may not be one that charges your battery (may only supply 12VDC to run your things). See if you can locate the mfr/model of the converter and check the specifications.

Don

I do not think that Jayco would install a converter only, but check anyway.

I am not interested in charging my battery with my vehicle, I just want to hookup a battery that is charged

thanks for your help

Hi found the red and white wire, the red one is near tongue, the
white one is under the trailer by the converter. it is bolted to the frame.
I was wondering if I can just ground the battery to the frame.

Yes, ground directly to the frame. Be sure you remove paint from the point where you make the connection. It is important to have a clean connection for a good ground.
