Battery question

So apparently the batteries in my 2020 355 MBQS need to be replaced. They have been getting weaker, and unless I am on shore power it won’t level, and sometime I can’t even lift it off the hitch with the landing gear.

What I am wondering- they want to replace them with similar batteries that require checking / filling of water. My question- are there any solid “maintenance free” batteries that provide the same (or better) power to the unit?

The current quote I have is $170 each X 2 batteries. Have no idea about what the different options are.

Go AGM (maintenance free) unless you boondock often and/or are concerned about weight. In the latter case, look at lithium batteries.

I switched to lithium as I was tired or worry over running batteries down and ruining them, didn't want to add the weight needed to stay 4 nights on battery.

AGMs cost about 40 % more than wet lead batteries. Lithiums have come down to maybe double regular batteries.
Why lithium. Doesn't harm them to run them down.
Rated amps is what you will get off a lithium, 1/2 of rated capacity on lead batteries before you do damage.
Lithium batteries weight about half of a Lead battery
Lithium can be stored at 50% charge for a year and won't be more than a tiny bit down.
Lithium lifetime is 2000 charges or in my case, a lot of years.

What about keeping Lithium batteries at 100% charge for long periods...isn't that bad?

Also, when comparing cost we are assuming that the electronics or BMS in the battery will not fail over several years.

Called and asked Renogy some questions. 1 answer was to store at 40 to 50% of charge for long term storage. They suggest shutting off solar and intentionally running the battery down to 45% before I store it.



Renogy gives a 5 year warranty including the battery so I feel good there.


2 or 3 accidental draining of lead batteries and they are on the way out. If

forget to shut off the LP/CO detector and the Renogy Lithium hits 1% it will just shut down and wait for a recharge with no damage.
