Best lube for scissor jacks

I wipe any gunk off first, then spray lightly with silicone lube. I’ll do it at the start of each season. I’ve found, though, that once I’m set up and they are lowered, I have to go back and “re-snug” them as they loosen pretty easily. This winter I ordered a set of brackets that keep the nuts from loosening on their own once they’re tight. We’ll see how that works.

Every spring I clean the threads really well, hit any bare spots with a rattle can of paint and lube with whatever is handy in the garage. Anything from regular motor oil to a spray can of something that's a lubricant. The key for us is to thoroughly clean them and re-lube every year. They always will eventually get dirty during travel, especially the back ones.

Make sure to use a dry lube. Any wet lubes will attact dirt and crude. My preference is Triflow. Had a hard time getting if for a while and used a dry wax based bicycle chain lube.
