I tow my TT with a Jeep Cherokee Sport. Last outing I decided to put the roof box on my Jeep for some extra storage. I was initially reluctant because I figured it would make the gas mileage worse. To my surprise, it seemed that if anything my mileage improved a bit with the roof box on. It seemed like the Jeep wasn't struggling as much to pull the TT on the highway. I am at odds to explain this, other than to suppose that the ergonomic egg shape of the roof box has the effect of disrupting the wind that normally would hit the TT head-on, and this disruption effect sweeps it away from the trailer a bit, reducing drag. This is my theory but then it might be my imagination as well.
Has anyone else observed this effect? Or is it all in my head?
