BigJohnD's Mods to 28BHBE

So I finally got started yesterday evening after I got home from work, and continued this afternoon after mass. Battery box has been replaced and will house the 2 six volt batteries that I haven't purchased yet. Stove removed to access Jayco's rat's nest of wires behind power panel.

And some more pictures. Inverter installed on that panel I had posted way back when. AC output line runs over / down and through the floor in the space between the nightstand inner / crawl space panel to keep it somewhat hidden. The phone line, or other wire is for the remote display and on/off switch by the bed. That's Little John's legs / head hanging through the access hatch in the bed frame. He's still into this stuff when I get the chance to work on it.

So what's next? Install cables from inverter to batteries - after I purchase the 6 volt batteries, reinstall stove / oven, seal up conduit penetrations under camper etc.

One picture I didn't post was the remote display / on/off display. It's installed by the door side bed night stand.

Now for all you inverter people. What size cable to install? 2/0, 4/0, 6/0? This is a 1000 watt Xantrex inverter powering one dedicated circuit to my residential fridge (Haier 10cf or so).

Wife hooked me up again. I can’t afford new Trojan batteries, BUT, she got me $200 worth of Sams / Walmart gift cards from our CC rewards stuff. So, off to Sams to get a couple of 6 volt cart batteries when I get the cards.

I opted to install a dedicated 15a breaker for the fridge opposed to using the existing circuit, which also powered other GFCI outlets. Had one available slot in breaker panel so I used it. I may run an inverter powered 120v outlet and usb charge port later, but really no need. All I wanted to do is power the residential fridge in transit. We only camp with AC hookups and have for 15 years now. We just don’t boondock. In the summer months, I’ll probably leave the genset on the back of the camper to run the air conditioner while in transit. Either way, fridge will be powered, AC or DC.

John...my apologies! I don't know how I missed all these posts! Good to have you back at it! Always quality work from you.

Thanks Danno. No apologies necessary. I kind of disappeared for a while due to lack of funds. I’ve just been reading everybody else’s stuff for several months. I’m tickled to death to have these projects and the money to do them now, finally. At least a few. I’ll be posting pictures as I complete them. It’ll be slow on my schedule (4 days on 2 off), but it’ll get done, and JOF will be the first to see.

Thanks Jack. So here's a few more pictures of today's progress. Don't have battieries or dc wiring yet to complete the inverter project, so I did the mud flaps. Inner fenders are hand bent / hammered, cut and shaped old school style out of some sheet aluminum I had left over from my exmark mower canopy seen on youtube. Mud flaps are the DIY Duraflap kit cut down to fit this application. I have run Duraflap mud flaps on most all of my 1 ton trucks and love them. Support bar bolted to frame is 1x1 aluminum. So, now I have mud flaps.
