Hi Husband and I are brand spanking new Rvers - just got the new travel trailer yesterday! At the walk-through, we were told that if we blow out all the water with an air compressor, we don't need to add anti-freeze as there is no water in the pipes. The package of the blow out value says as last step to add antifreeze after we have blown out the water. So now we are confused. We will store the RV tomorrow and take it out again in 3 weeks and then every month or two. We live in Alabama so not arctic weather but it does get cold here. Do we need to add antifreeze or just blow the water out? Any guidance and direction would be helpful.

Welcome to the forum Kent and Corrie! We have a section on Winterizing which describes each method, with antifreeze and only using compressed air-http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthread.php?t=4848

If you are sure you have ALL the water out of the system then there is no need for antifreeze except to pour some in the p-traps and a little in the black/grey water holding tanks. For some reason even when I blow out the lines to get the water out I still add the antifreeze to be sure, I suppose I doubt myself just a bit. It only takes about 1.5 to 2 gallons if the water heater tank is bypassed and drained, as described in the link.

Thanks!

Thank you Crabman and Healthi for the replies! Crabman, the links you sent were great. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum Kent & Carrie and congrats on your new camper. FWIW I blow out the lines and follow up with antifreeze. For the price of a couple gallons it helps my mind rest easier all winter. Like Crabman said, don't forget to pour some antifreeze down the drain P-traps.
