Boondocking picnic table mod

While Boondocking not having a picnic was a real issue when it came to eating outdoors. We boondock several times a year so this needed to be done. We bought a folding table last year but hauling it proved to be a real PITA. I came up with this mod sometime last year while camping but just never got around to fabricating it. This was a must have, top to do mod and i finally finished it today. I have to say that it came out exactly as I drew it up which made me really happy.

Without having a bed towing a 5'er you need to get creative when hauling large items. I think this fits the bill.

I can run a tarp around the top easily, just need to purchase one close to it's size and cut it. I don't want it coming off.

Found the stock at the local big box the other day and chose it to keep the weight down. It's 1/8" stock and very rigid. I also used grade 8 3/8 bolts through the frame with nylocks. The whole thing can't weigh but 10# which is nice.

Hey, I think you did a great job and it looks very light weight and perfect for its function. With just two of us and the dog, we can get by with a folding camp table that we picked up at Sams Club for under $60.

Nice mod......! Have you done anything with your AC in the bunkhouse? I am looking to add a 3rd AC to the vent hole, any thoughts may be helpful if you have already investigated. I will be making this one with the table for my poly table as well thanks for sharing.

There has been a few threads on this site that I posted some mods I made to my AC system. There are three things you can do for under $100.00 that might make all the difference in the world.

1. Cut and install a second vent in the bunk house between the first and bathroom wall.
2. I installed some flashing in the artic cool plate within the LR to help direct the air to the ducts. Can't find the threads right now but search AC and it should be there.
3. Plexi screen door mod with self closing springs. Makes a huge difference.

Another thing might be a few vent insulators.

I am only running one unit in the LR and it's been doing a decent job in the 95-98 degree days with 99% humidity.

My tables all come from my tent camping days the large one being in the roll-up carrying case. The small tables are the fold-up type. The all have the wood tops... I have two of the large roll-up tables and four of the small folding tables.
