Brakes, stove, and awning questions.

We just bought a used (only 1 time) 2016 Jayco 264bhw. We have a Tekonsha P3 controller in our 2014 Nissan Armada. I cannot seem to set the brake properly. The manual says set the brake so the trailer brakes locks up using the manual override and then back off a little bit. No matter what I try I cannot get the trailer brakes to lock up even with the controller set to the max. The trailer brakes do work and I can feel it slowing down both the trailer and the TV. Any ideas if this is normal? If so how in the world do I know what to set the brake controller to? Next issue is the stove. We have an 3 burner stove, the front burner burns as it should with a blue flame, the 2 rear burners burn with large yellow flames. My understanding is that the yellow flame means it needs more air, but I do not see a way to adjust? Any thoughts? Nest we have a power awning from Carefree Colorado I believe it is the eclipse model. I see amazon sells an extension for the awning, is it safe top add an 8 foot awning extension? Anybody out there use one?

First, I have to say you some want your brakes to lock up. I get that the instructions refer to it. Question would be how fast are you driving during this test? I set trailers by driving 10-15mph. I want a good tug but try to refrain from locking them up. If I achieve lock up, then back off as it states. Another thing to think of is your trailer brakes could use servicing. If after service, since they are already broke In, you may not achieve lock up which you don't want anyways.

Trace the gas tube from the know to the burner. Somewhere along there, there is a slide gate to open to allow more air. Usually a small screw to loosen to adjust and tighten to keep in position. You may have to lift up top of stove.

The Tekonsha P3 takes a bit to setup properly. It has two settings power and boost, start by setting the boost to 1 and power to 6. I went to a high school parking lot after hours to play with the settings. If you start at 1 and 6 and need more grip keep going up on the power. If power is all the way up and still not braking correct set boost to 2 and lower power back down 6 and try again. When I set my boost to high the brakes get real jerky at lower speeds

I set my boost to B2 and power to 5. I too had my power set too high at around 8.

When set correctly the lever on top of the P3 should cause the trailer brakes to slow the truck down smoothly. This is how you control sway if it happens to you.

I would pull the brake drums and inspect things since you have no history of the last time brakes were serviced. You could have a blown seal with grease on the pads and/or drums.

As others have said, the pads could need adjusting as well. I would start with a brake inspection before I did anything else.

Do this very last.

Mostlikely the issue is a spider Web inside the gas tube, somewhere between the burner and the valve. Clean the tube and it should work. For some crazy reason spiders like propane.

If by chance you think you need to adjust the air mixture scribe a reference make, so you know where you started at.
