Buckskin State Park, Parker Az

We have been here for a week and it is one of the nicest state parks around. Very clean, well kept and the rangers and workcampers are very friendly. It is about 25 miles from Lake Havasu, about 14 miles from Parker, and about 50 miles from Quartsite. Our campsite was only about 200 feet from the Colorado river. Some sites have full hookups , ours had water and electric only, If planning a trip check this place out. Ernie

Don't have any pics. We were in spot 60. I don't know all the campsite numbers that have full hookups but I do know that if you go to the website it has them there. Later Ernie

Just went on buckskin website and the sites that have full hookups are 7,22,31-38, and 62-68. Also spots 17,16,15,23,22 are real close to the sewer processing plant. Didn't smell but machine going all the time, could be noisy. Ernie

Thinking seriously of spending my winter in Arizona next year so I'm always interested in hearing about different camping areas, because I don't plan on spending the winter in one CG.

Many of AZ parks now have an online reservation sytem ( including this one) with photos of the individual camp sites. http://azstateparks.com/
Saves a lot of rushing about and makes camping a bit lest stressfull.

Thinking seriously of spending my winter in Arizona next year so I'm always interested in hearing about different camping areas, because I don't plan on spending the winter in one CG.

Here's anouther great place to stay in the winter. Park Moabi is on the California side of the Colorad River. About 35 miles north of Lake Havasu City Az. & 20 miles south of Needles Calif. on Interstate 40. The park has a snowbird special, Nov. through March $ 260 a month with full hookups. The spots are right on the river (some inland spots also). We will be spending the month of March there this year.

I like the idea of being along/near the river, sounds like a keeper. Once you are there in March I would be interested in what you see as "preferred" campsite numbers, and can you reserve sites in advance.

I plan to mix my winter camping with some boondocking, and spoil myself with some full hook-up CG's.

I'm creating a area/CG file so that this summer I can review/confirm my next winter camping plans....., just want out of Michigan next winter!

Bob you can make reservations a year in advance. I will try to post pictures of the peninsula camping (thats what the water spots are called). You camp 4 rv's to a peninsula site.

Here are some pictures from Park Moabi. Points (peninsula) 2 through 25 hold 4 rvs each. Points 15, 16 & 22 hold 10 rvs each. Each point has a little different setup.
We tend to stay away from the points that hold 10 rvs.

Bob, we came here 6 years ago and didn't have a clue where to go or what to do. We found ourselves in the Parker area and because we had our quads with us we decided to stay for a few weeks. Weeks have turned into 6 years for us. We have traveled around and looked but for our needs/wants we are very happy here. Also, if you don't stay at least a month you will find that it is an expencive winter. Daily and weekly rates in most parks are high.

Was talking to a guy from Oregon the other day and he told me that the RV resort across from Buckskin on the calif side charges $299.00 per month full hookups and thats including electric. He went over there and was going to make reservations for next year. The spots back up to the Colorado about 60 feet from the water, and have about 15 to 19 feet between trailers. dodn't look to bad. Bounder it looks like the rvs are just pulled in anyway people wanted to pull in. The place looks really nice.

Every works togerter to make it an enjoyable stay. There is alot of room on each point for everybody. The monthly rate also includes electricity

We haven't been to the Buckskin area in a long time. When we are at Park Moabi in March we will take a day trip to that area of the river.

I would really check that out. We have checked most parks in the area and have not found any that include electricity on a monthly rate. In fact it is hard to find a weekly spot with out having to pay the electric bill. Most parks will charge .16 or .17 per KWH.

Just checked out the website for Moabi, from Nov till March the rent is $220.00 per month and you can only stay 5 month in any 1 [one] year. I did not see anything about the electric cost if any. I might have missed it, but it still looks good. Bounder what is there to do around there. didn't see to much. Thanx Ernie

I just called the office and the rent is $260 including electricity. The web site is wrong. Next year the rent is going to be $300 including electricity.
Things to do: Oatman, Az. is an old gold mining town on route 66 about an hours drive, (people still live there). Laughlin Nv. is about 35 miles north & Lake Havasu City is 30 miles south. Kingman Az. is 60 miles to the east. The Topock Gorge is beautiful but can only be seen by boat, it starts 2 miles down river. Lots of desert to explore. The park office also has a list of things to do.
