First mod for our TT - a sturdy ladder for top bunk access.

I made it from scrap 3/4" cabinet grade plywood. Just needs a final sanding and some finish. I used some plastic knobs with threaded studs to make it easy to remove and stow away.

I wish I would have seen this before I purchased a 3 step ladder for ours. You did a great job! Happy Camping my friend!

I just made this out of the old ladder off the back of the camper the previous owner hit his garage with it I asked the dealer to keep the old ladder it is very light weight and hooks on and off for storage.

Very nice ladder SawBuck. I need for our trailer, right now for the kids to get up to the top bunk, they jump off the bottom bed and push off on the bathroom door handle, which I am sure will break very soon.

Do you happen to have plans for the ladder that you would be able to post or PM me?

The side rails are 54.25" long, 3.5" wide, and have 20 degree angles at both ends. The dados for the treads are 3/8" deep and are also cut at 20 degrees and are 10.5" on center starting from the top (the highest step is at the bottom and is about 11.75" from the floor). The top of the side rails have a relief cut that is .75" x 1.5" to allow the ladder to extend under the top bunk far enough for some "L" brackets to fasten the ladder to the underside. The treads are 3.5" wide, and the overall width is 12". I eased all the edges with a 3/8" round-over bit.

I assembled it with brads and glue. I also got some no-skid drawer liner from the dollar store and hot glued strips under the feet and in the notch between the ladder and bunk to protect the floor and trim.

We take ours down to put the slide in. You could change the angle so the ladder would be a bit more steep, but allow the slide to close without removing. The down side is it may make it a little harder to climb down, especially during the night. You could also tweak the tread spacing to make each step exactly the same spacing as the first.

I can put together a Sketchup drawing with dimensions if anyone is interested.

Very nice job Sawbuck, I don't have the finish carpentry skills to pull a project like that off. William that was a good idea to use that old outside ladder, it has me thinking about whether I could find a boat ladder that might be the right height? We use a 3 step foldable step stool we bought at Walmart. It works quite well for the kids getting up and down but it takes up a lot of space, and the bunk is right in front of the bathroom. I would like to have a ladder mounted more permanent.

That is a great ladder SawBuck. We have also been trying to figure out a nice ladder to save the bathroom knob... Thanks for sharing.
