Campground Water

I have always had a two stage filter for incoming water into my 5er. The first filter is a 1 micron sediment filter and the second filter is a carbon filter. The first filter is in a clear housing so I can see the condition of the filter media.
I have had this filter setup since I started full timing last summer and lived over the winter at my home base. My first sediment filter lasted for 7 months. It wasn't terribly dirty, but discolored enough that I replaced it. Then I moved to a campground for a host position.
This park is on city water and I assumed the water would be good. It looks OK, but after being here for 10 days my first stage sediment filter is dirtier than at my home base after 7 months. The water tastes fine, but I sure feel better having a dirty filter than having all of this sediment in my fresh water system.
You just never know the condition of what comes out of a tap. I do have a pressure regulator also. Don't want to blow out a pipe somewhere.

Odd if you are on city water and get a lot of sediment....Maybe that line had not been used all winter and you were the first one to flush it out for the year?

That stuff plays havoc with your aerators on your faucets.

This is an extremely busy campground so the lines not being used isn't the problem. There are 176 sites here so there is a lot of water coming into the park. I think it is just crappy city water.

I like to take bottled water just to be sure it's clean enough to drink. Plus, I keep the bottles in the fridge to have it cold. (Next to the beer).

Ed, that filter with the clear bowl needs to be kept OUT of the sun. If you leave it in the sun you will be surprised at what can grow in there.

If there is a fire hydrant at or near the end of the line, see if you can get the lines flushed for 15-30 minutes. Pulls a lot of debris out of the lines.

My filter is in the basement where it is in the dark all the time unless I have a hatch open which isn't often. I wanted a clear bowl for the sediment filter so I could see it's condition without having to open it up.
Buying and transporting bottled water isn't for me. I always drink local tap water regardless of where I am. Obviously some of it is better than others which is why I have the two stage filter.
Works for me.

Good way to build up the immune system! I had a grandpa that would cook a meal in the crock pot, eat it at night - then turn it off. Next morning he would turn it back on and eat it again the next night. This would go on for a few days - never hurt him one bit...guess he was like a turkey vulture and immune to botulism.

Now ok - I would not do that...but it is like this hand sanitizer craze - I know folks that put gallons of stuff on their hands a day - and they get sick all the time - no exposure = no resistance.

Ed will outlast us all!

I read the other day where a new study shows that kids needs need to be less sanitized. They need to play outside and be allowed to eat dirt occasionally. Builds their immune system.

I agree Ed, let 'em run around and get dirty, swim in the lake, and drink from the garden hose! I've done it all my life, and still around and kicking...hardly ever get sick! Coddeling them is only gonna weaken not only their immune system, but their stamina, strength, and independence! Let the kids be kids!!!
