Hey All:

I have a 2015 Silverado V8 5.3 L with a tow rating of 9100 pounds. I am considering purchasing a Jayco 24RL. Published Dry Weight is 5340 ibs with a GVWR of 6500 lbs. By the time I get it loaded up, am I going to be pushing the limits of the truck? Right now I am only towing an X17Z at about 3500 lbs, so no experience with anything larger.

Thoughts?

What does the yellow payload sticker state on the driver's side door jamb?

If you maxed the trailer at 6500 lbs. that could be up to 975 pounds of tongue weight. Add the weight of passengers and any essentials in the bed of the pick up and you may be maxing the Silverado.

However, I feel, depending on payload, you have enough truck to tow the 24RL.

Thanks for the reply Murff. Also, it will typically be just my wife and me, plus our stuff, of course, in the truck. I would guess we would be under the payload, but just a guess.

I have a 2019 24RL and had the same truck as you have, the truck towed just fine. My trailer has the second air conditioner option that added some extra weight. My "empty" weight is 5700lbs, loaded is 6200 with a tongue weight around 750 - 800 depending on how I load the trailer. Recently bought a 2019 F-150 Ford with max towing package, it does a better job..

This is a question that comes up often and rather than taking a chance there are calculators on-line that will help. Google "can I tow this" and you will find several.

With a good WDH, loaded properly (balanced), and watching what heavy items you take along, you should be OK. We've looked at everything in out TT, and if we haven't used it, forgot it was on board, or have a lighter alternative for it, it gets taken out. Such things were wooden blocking for the stabilizer jacks were replaced by lighter Lynx Levelers, that are also used for side to side leveling. Cast iron pie makers that we used a couple of times, etc. You get the idea.
