Can someone explain what I need and what it will do?

I know I need an inverter (and what an inverter does) but is it as simple as hooking up these two wires to the inverter or is there more involved?

And what outlets would it power in a Jayco Jayflight SLX 175FQ?

Thanks.

At least to get started, the first question is “have you added any solar panels, charge controller, batteries, etc”, and if so, what are the details of each.

Next question is what do you want to power, for how long, and how much current does each device consume?

Then you have to decide on a budget.

You can call Jayco customer service and they will email you a copy of your wiring schematics.

There are other issues you’ll have to consider, but that at least will get you started.

I’d have to gather all that info at this point I just want to understand the point of the inverter prep. I’ll worry about inverter size and load later. I’d to understand the connections and what’s involved. Then decide if it’s worth it. Once all the load size are figured out is it as easy as plugging those wires into the inverter or do more wires need to be run?

The trailer has the overlander 1 solar package. 200 watts of solar and a charge controller.

I’ll try to post the schematics they sent. Thanks.

I’ve called Jayco for a couple schematics. They’ve been great about emailing the pdfs while we’re talking. That should answer your question of what is powered. They will ask for your trailers vin number.

It takes more than two wires for an inverter install but I'm not sure what is under that cover plate that you posted in the picture. For the inverter input, there will be a positive 12 VDC, and a negative 12 VDC connection, as a minimum. On the output side, there will be a 120 VAC hot, neutral, and ground, again as a minimum. Those 3 output connections will typically be contained in one romex cable. If that cable is included in the pre-wiring, where it goes will determine what outlets are powered. In my motorhome, the inverter output goes back to the 120 VAC load center where it powers one circuit. The best way for you to figure this out is to ask Jayco for the wiring schematics for your VIN-specific rig. That will also tell you the wire sizes so you can decide if the pre-wiring is sufficient for what you want to do.

It may help you to look at an inverter installation/owners manual so you can see how the manufacturer wants you to install it. If you know what inverter you want, look for it's manual. If you just want to look at one, here's a link to download the owner's manual for the inverter that came preinstalled in my rig: 1000W 12VDC Pure Sine Inverter CSW Series | Magnum Dimensions

Thanks for the reply. I posted the pdf of what Jayco sent me up above. Not sure if it’s viewable. I couldn’t make much of it.

I’m just wondering is inverter prep like camera prep or solar prep? I just plugged the camera in and was good to go. My solar was pre wired.

It is viewable, but that's only a diagram of your 120 VAC load center (ie circuit breaker panel). What you need is the electrical schematic for the 12 VDC system and the 120 VAC system. Those will show you what (if any) wires are pre-installed for the inverter input (12 VDC) and output (120 VAC).
I did some searching on this site and found this thread which may be helpful: Inverter install in a "Pre Wired" rig
After reading that, my best guess (and it is a guess) is that Jayco has prewired 120 VAC input and output wires. You will need to provide a suitably sized inverter and the 12 VDC wiring from the battery to the inverter. It's not as simple as just plugging in an inverter. If you've got a good background in electrical, it's not that hard. If you don't, this is probably something you should pay to have done.

Thanks. That was helpful. I reached out to Jayco for the 12v diagram at service@jayco.com. Couldn’t find a way to contact on their site including that email which seems shady to me.

I’m thinking it may be easier to just run everything off the BLUETTI Apex 300 that I have coming. There I wonder if that could be wired directly into the trailer to power everything since it can’t really be outside. Running a cord out the window to the shore power plug is the easiet option.

I just call them. If you tell the customer service person what you are doing, they can look at all the available docs and send you what they have that applies.

Here’s what’s inside the inverter prep box.

@FergsDad , I have the exact same box. I'm sure if you contact customer service, they can tell you which outlets are connected to the green wire.

Here’s what’s inside the inverter prep box.
OK, that makes it more clear. Those are the 120 VAC wires. The white cable connects to your inverter shore power input, if it has an internal ATS or passes power through, or to your inverter ATS otherwise. The green cable connects to the inverter output. As bow-man says, you'll need Jayco to tell you, or send the schematics, to see what outlets will be powered. As I said before, you'll need to provide the inverter (and ATS if necessary) and the 12 VDC wiring from battery to inverter. What do you want to power with the inverter? You'll need to think about how large an inverter you want which will determine the size of the 12 VDC wiring.

Here’s the 12v diagram. I didn’t see any mention of the prep and when I asked for a diagram or which outlets are powered, this was their answer.

Nothing major powering with the inverter. Just charge some things, run a small projector for movies, tv, maybe a crock pot. I’m think a 2000 or 3000 watt. Not sure my battery would support the microwave or ac for any amount of time if those are wired for inverter.
