As I was checking 1 1/2 old TT. I notice my speaker cone damaged. It could have been worse, if water have breached my TT. Heads up on this fiberglass owners.

Mine is covered so if it happen to me, U are next.

I've always been somewhat skeptical of my speakers water integrity and have made sure that where they are fastened to the wall that there is no water intrusion along that joint. But are you saying that if the speaker cone is damaged that water can leak into the trailer wall?

How did you notice the speaker cone damage - what are the clues to look for?

Yes, once the cone has gone bad water will leak in.

Things to look at: cracking sound or look in side the speaker if u can or remove it.

It will be on my yearly inspection, a must. Once U take the speaker off U will see what I'm talking about.

My outside speakers have marine type speaker cones (some sort of plastic)... So far sounds great and no leaks

How do you get true stereo imaging off that? The speakers are supposed to be 2.5 human head widths apart for a listening distance of 6'. Them's just too close together for the proper listening experience.

My TT came with marine speakers to. Once that cone breaks from the inner ridge water will go in. the only way to see this in action is to push the cone in with something soft or remove the speaker. The speaker will still play with a broken cone and DELAMINATION will begin very quietly on your TT. I understand marine speakers only last 3yrs before they brake the cone from the ridge inside.

I spend a lot of time - a lot of time - checking, caulking, and Eternabonding where appropriate to prevent leaks. I'm serious about not having leaks, and willing to do the required work.

Now, I've learned of another source of leakage - from speakers that I didn't want in the first place. We haven't used our exterior speakers since the trailer was just a few weeks old - and when we did use them, we used them by accident; I actually unhooked my exterior speaker wiring.

Does the fact that my speakers haven't been used since 2011 mean that the speaker cones will not fall apart? Or will they just degrade and begin to leak just from being outside?

I think they just deteriorate from sun and weather. Mine were completely gone last fall when we got our Octane (it's a 2010).
