Planning our first long trip from S. Central TX to Colorado Springs in early November.
Any "must see" attractions? Anything to be aware of or stay away from? Any route suggestions from San Antonio up to Colorado? Any pointers at all?
I'm thinking Pikes Peak Cog Railway, Cave of the Winds, maybe Garden of the Gods... Still looking for family-with-young-kids friendly attractions and activities.
The drive will take about a day and a half. We're planning to take advantage of our 2-year old's sleeping patterns and get the first "day" of driving knocked out after he goes to bed. We'll stop somewhere and catch a few hours rest and grab some breakfast and hit it again early. The second day will be like a regular travel day for us, albeit a long one, to put is in Colorado Springs in the early evening.
Our schedule will be to have some kind of activity/destination planned for the morning hours, and have the afternoon to "freestyle". If we come across something we want to go see, we can head out and see it. If we want to just hang out at camp and rest, we can do that too. With a 2-YO along for the ride, we have to keep things flexible, but we must stick to his schedule or face the wrath of a grumpy toddler!! LOL!!
I'm still in the VERY early planning stages on this one, so any input is welcome!! And thanks in advance!!
