Considering Redhawk 24B

This is the recent thread I started on both the 65mph drone + the cabover banging in my new 24B. You can scroll to the bottom to see the fix I did yesterday. No guarantees it'll work for others, but it's probably a good start if you have a Redhawk 24B. In short, I took out 2 steel spacer plates from the driveline and it stopped. I did a 2nd test drive this morning out of curiosity and I'm sure it's gone now.

Storage isn't great. I put my kiteboard/surfboards on the overhead cab bunk, chairs under the bed [not the best as they are trapped when slide is in - same with closets/drawers in far back - trapped with slide in], other kites/kite gear [wet stuff] in two largest hatches on driver side front/back hatches. All other typical RV stuff in other hatches.

Another area of storage that you didn't mention is under the bench seats of the dinette area. That's where we put our camping chairs, so we can get to them when the slide is in.

I agree, bad design on the rear wardrobe, can't get to it when slide is in.

Hey Retired. How do you put in the shower support??
Love the layout. I have had some problems with slide getting out of sync but hopefully is worked out. Use the under bed for chairs and roll up table and at times larger bottles of tasty beverages and water jugs. Nice because is no putting weight on slide.

Love the walk around bed after coming from a cornet/walk bed where have to crawl over other person!! Grandson LOVED sleeping over can.

Hey Retired. How do you put in the shower support??

I opened up the access panel on the front of the shower base, which is right in front of the drain. Then I cut some scrap 2x4 piece and slid them in around the drain fitting to support the shower floor.

Jayco didn't put any additional support in that area, and actually cut out more of the plywood base holding the shower in the drain area then they should have, so there was nothing supporting the fiberglass section of the shower where the drain was attached.

I could see, over time, due to the constant flexing, issues would start with the drain piping.

Thanks for the info and the updates. I am stuck with what I have until winter so I will not be of much help for now. Looks like the carrier bearing shims are next on my to do list. I await your report for the fix of the cabover noise in case I end up performing this myself.

Welcome. We own a 2018 24k. The drain area on ours seems plenty sturdy, I am a big guy @ 6'3" and 245 lbs. Our toilet is the small bowl and I found it is pretty high off the ground. We put a small step stool in front of the toilet and it helps with that high step into the shower too. I do like the diesel upfront, a ton more legroom for my big butt. Gas mileage is around 12-13 mpg, which is pretty good. We pull our 2018 Equinox and it pulls real nice. The only difference I have noticed is climbing up steep mountains I slow to around 50 mph, when we are not towing I can easily keep up on the grades at 65. Only gripes the past two years; Jayco is replacing my radio (Garmin Fusion) for the 2nd time right now.. and it seems to me my front paint chips way to easy (as compared to a car). I have a ton of chip marks all over the front of my RV and the front-facing sidewalls by the door. I avoid taking it off-road most the time and stay at RV parks. Otherwise, I love my Jayco!

I'll keep you posted on anything I find on the overhead cab banging using this thread and the one I started about it more specifically. Unfortunately, it sounds like we both have it. I'm thinking now to wait until the weather goes sour to dive in head first. There are still some very good weeks left here to get out and play. Unlike the 65mph+ drone, the banging I can put up with on the short term. Even my dog is used to it now. I know it'll involve some down time at the dealer to tackle it and I might want to do that during the winter months? In short, I'm still deciding how + when to proceed. I'd appreciate any knowledge you might find out on it as well. If the panels come off easily, I may get in there myself. Just not sure yet.

My only dislike on my Redhawk is the TPO Roof! It’s just maintenance and an extra worry. But I can always have the rhino flex roof installed!

In the summer of 2017, we chose a Melbourne, on the Mercedes Sprinter chassis. It replaced a 2002 Tioga with the Ford V-10.
Best decision ever.
The turbo diesel 6-cylinder in the Melbourne is a dream. Power, quite, mpg, towing ability.
I seem to recall someone telling me the diesel would cost $10k more than a comparably equipped gasoline engine Class C. It was worth it.
At least consider going with the Sprinter chassis. Many manufacturers use it, so there should be options for you to explore.

We just bought a 24B and pick it up next Friday. I checked the shower floor at the dealer was solid. It should not be soft. I'd look at another unit or have the dealer fix it to your satisfaction.

We are having Fantastic Fans installed in the bathroom and living area for better ventilation.

We also plan to take the unit to a 4x4 truck shop and have better sway bars installed.

The commode is cheap plastic and it will be replaced with a porcelain unit.
