Couple more 23MBH mods

Got a few more things done today, still lots to do but this is a good start.

New baggage door under rear under. Dealer wanted $375, EBay $62. Installed peg board underneath to organize all my hoses etc.



Cut out the plywood at the front storage compartments to create a pass through storage. Just have to remember to remove the items before changing the bed position.


And built a shelf above the microwave. There is a ton of wasted space up there and this trailer is lacking when it comes to pantry space. I still need to finish it out to cover the wiring etc and build a cabinet door but for now all of our canned goods now have a new home.

Thanks, biderman. Good job. I especially like the shelf over the microwave. Have been looking at that black panel for a year and wondered if there was space behind it. Did you find much you had to move?

Nothing to move at all. Just had to take out the microwave so I could screw on the wall cleats. The whole process took less than an hour. The next area I will be tackling is the black panels at the bottom of the entertainment center. I am going to install a Furrion shore power plug-in and get rid of the push-inside cord. That will open up a considerable amount of storage. I am also going to install a slide out cutting board in the black out space above the top drawer next the kitchen sink.

Tonight I went through and improved shelf durability throughout the unit. The front wardrobe shelves were especially bad. They are 5mm plywood installed on the bottom of the cabinet and faced stapled with 1/8 crown staples. It wouldn't have taken more than 15-20lbs to pull the staples through the plywood. I screwed the plywood with #8 x 3/4" spax screws 8" o.c. I then found the shelves at the entertainment center and ward closet were only screwed one one side. The other wall cleats were just hanging so I properly fastened all of those too.

I think the general construction of this unit is pretty good but I have to say Jayco's cabinet construction in amongst the lower end of what I have looked at in the past 6 months.

Blderman, I have a 264bh and don't like seeing that blackpanel either. If I take it out, what's behind it? Is there a horizontal board there, or just the top of the microwave? Also, how did you get that black panel out? The for the mods!

Be wary of the microwave mod... this reduces air circulation around the microwave. If you use it a lot it MIGHT cause overheating. I definitely would not use this mod if it was a convection microwave.

No, it does not reduce air circulation around the microwave. The top of the microwave has a built in air vent "top front" and it's directed out that black grill you see in the picture. He'll be just fine doing this.

So is this the jayflight 23MBH. We have the whitehawk 23MBH and it looks like some of the items you mentioned have been corrected not sure but hard to tell from the post. For the microwave thy have eliminated that space. I guess moved the microwave up to just gain cooking space. Pantry space does seem to be at a premium but it is okay for us now

I like the door idea. I was considering enlarging my storage door on my 264bhw to the chill and store door. Just to get larger items in. How difficult was it? Just measure and cut?

I checked my stud spacing and ordered a door that would fit without cutting studs. Then yes, it was just line up, trace the outline and cut with a jigsaw. Make sure you double check everything as you only get one chance to make it right!

Blderman, I like your mods. Noticed in one of your pics you have a set of Anderson levelling blocks. How do you like them? I'd like to get a set. They would save time and would require less stuff to haul around to set up the trailer.

We have a set- love them. If the site is *very* unlevel I've still had to wedge a board underneath to get some extra height, but they have worked as-is probably 95% of the time. Much faster and allows you to level perfectly.

Agreed, they work perfectly and quickly. So much easier than stacking blocks and trying to find the right height. Just backup while watching your level.
