We have a 2012 custom built VW Trike.
It has the 4 speed "Hi-Way" flyer transaxle. It's the standard 4 speed with the reverse. It has an EMPI reverse lockout shifter, so there's no chance of accidently putting it into reverse while driving down the road.
This has the independent rear suspension (IRS) rather than the swing axle style. Makes for better handling.
I have done the disc brake conversion on the rear for better braking vs drum brakes.
I built the engine from the bare case. It is an 1835CC engine.
The engine case is an EMPI HD S/S performance case with the #3 cylinder filled. If you know your air cooled VW, you will know what I am referring to on the filled #3.
Has a steel counter weighted crankshaft, steel connecting rods, Engle #110 cam and followers, straight cut timing gears, chrome moly push rods, with 1:125 ratio rockers. The heads are EMPI performance large valve with dual performance valve springs.
I installed Mahle pistons and cylinders as well.
It also has a remote oil filter installed. This allows for much better oil filtration vs the standard VW screen style.
This engine has a pair of EMPI 44mm spread bore carburetors. These are Weber copies. They work great and the engine gets about 25MPG usually.
The original engine I put in was a 1635 but decided to build a much better engine for performance as well as reliability.
This 1835 can run between 5,000 and 6,000 RPM without any damage or issues. I built the engine in 2018 and have put about 4 or 5 thousand miles on it since. I usually shift between 4 and 5 thousand RPM's.
I have north of $6,000 alone, invested in the engine.
For best performance, I run the non-ethenal 91 to 94 octane fuel. However, the heads are designed to allow for ethenal type fuel. It runs just fine with 85 to 87 octane regular gas, but it performs much much better running the premium non-ethenal gas.
The front "down" tube from the front end to the bottom frame is filled with concreate to help keep the front wheel on the ground. LOL. It helps a lot!
Overall, this trike is right at 12 feet long, so if you are planning on hauling this anywhere, you will need to keep that in mind.
This trike also has a windshield that is on it now.
This trike has been a ton of fun for the wife and I. As you can see from the pictures, you can site two people on the back seat. We have had this on several motorcycle runs locally and down in Colorado. We have given several kids rides on this, and they always love it!
It originally had a little 5 gallon tank under the back seat. I replaced that with an 11 gallon tank that I mounted on the built flat bed over the top of the engine compartment. It will now easily go 200 to 250 miles before needing to fill up.
I am also including the cargo trunk that's mounted on the bed. This trunk can easily be removed if you wish.
We also have a pair of nice helmets that I will let go with the purchase of the trike.
The ONLY reason we are selling this, is, we are getting prepared to move to a different state and just won't have the room or time for riding this amazing trike.
We are asking $6,500 OBO on this trike.
Thank you very much for taking a look at this add.
