Desperate for Cool Air

For the life of me, my AC won't cool beyond 84 degrees. Anyone know why???

If I'm reading the outside temp at 119 you can't expect much more than that. If you're getting a 15 to 20 degree drop across the coil (room temp 84, air coming out of vent 64/69) it's running as it should.

You're almost asking the impossible! I'd say you're about as good as you're going to get. Which is a heck of a lot better than 119.

As said, you basically get a 20 degree drop from inlet to outlet. About the only thing you can do is turn the AC on as early as possible so the inlet air is cooler resulting in cooler outlet air. May help for a short period.

Other factors include how often the door is opened and how much light is coming in through the windows. If possible put up some shading.

Air movement makes it seem cooler for a given temp. Add a fan to blow the air around.

Then it is 95 with 90% humidity.


My daughter and family are in NYC right now. The temp was 90 felt like 95, with 85% humidity. Light rain at times.

I would go somewhere that has a lower outside air temperature. But 84 inside temperature is not that bad. It might cool off when the sun goes down, if your lucky.

20 degree reduction is what you can expect. The A/C can't do the impossible sitting on top of a box, in the direct sun, with the trailer box R value no better than about 7-8.

If camping in the desert is a regular thing for you, look to add a second A/C unit, if your rig has the capacity to do so. If not, it is what it is. Keep shades down, apply thermo backer/reflect stuff to back side of shades. Keep door open/close to a minimum and get that A/C pumping early in the morning, even if you don't need it. Get a couple countertop/stand fans running.

If you're not satisfied, consider a 2 A/C unit camper. Even my smallish 22rb is 50amp, with the ability to add a second direct air, A/C in the bedroom.

Here is CT we are dealing the opposite. 91% humidity. It's like a swamp out there. My sister is using my camper at the beach this week. She said she stayed inside most of the day yesterday, reading books and catching up on her favorite shows.

We are used to heat and humidity on the coast but I think everyone is experiencing more of both this summer. Just glad we are not in South Texas today!

It is a dry heat until the monsoon sets in then it isn’t. We often have dew points in the minus range.
