Did the Eagle 321RTS have more problems being a covid build?

We are looking at a used 2020 321rts. Not knowing a lot about Jayco Eagles, (we just sold our Rockwood TT w/600 watts of solar that we sold, kept the 4 battle borns.) I would appreciate any advice you can give us.

I just watched a LizAmazing video and she's recommending only buying 2018 or older fifth wheels.

2020 we are looking at ad:"We are original owners and are only selling because we don’t use the trailer as much as we used to. It has solar on the roof, 2 ac units, 2 tv’s, a king size bed, upgraded Goodyear tires, the dry camping package with larger propane tanks to run an LP generator. It’s wired and ready for an Onan 5500 but does not have one. It has a ceiling fan in living room and a fireplace. Everything works except the heated seats in the living rm. It’s just has one panel that came from the factory. It does have a plug to add more portable panels but we’ve never used it" asking 50K obo.

What is the dry camping package? We plan to boondock. Is 2020 a covid build?
Thank you : Judy in Vegas

Hi Judy. Easy answer first, the dry camping package includes:

- Large Holding Tank Capacities- Extra-Large Battery Area- Solar Prep to Rooftop and Ground- Generator Prep (Option)- Extra LP Capacity (Option, an additional 30 LB tank.)

Like the owner mentioned, it doesn't have a generator on board It includes the wiring, and perhaps the transfer switch, to have one installed.

Now, this is only my thoughts and opinion on a "Covid" unit.

I have seen posts that 2018 was thought to be the last "safe" year for a non-Covid build, however, a 2020 unit was possibly built in 2019. There should be a sticker on it somewhere that is stamped with the month and year of production. Maybe a call to Jayco with the VIN number would get a definitive answer on that.

My next thought is that all the related maladies did not begin to happen all at once. It took some time for component shortages to happen and employees to be laid off as the pandemic progressed.

It may indeed be a later production camper, but it can be investigated. Having a professional RV inspector look it over and report back is always worth the expense on any camper, new or old.

Since that fifth wheel came with Goodyear tires from the factory, it's possible they're original and at or close to aging out. So, it may need new ones unless the owner changed them out already.

Happy shopping, have fun with it, but cover your "6" before you buy anything.

Thank you, I watch a lot of rv videos on what to look for, and we did RV for 7 years until my husband fell and needed 3 surgeries. He's improving and really wants to get a fifth wheel. I'm going to check the build date on this 321RTS. I like to talk to an owner to get the best feedback on a model. We bought our TT online from an Oklahoma dealership without even looking at it! We were so dumb. Luckily it was a pretty good TT and Rockwood had a 2 year warranty and fixed everything. Even so it was at camping world LasVegas being fixed for 4 months.

Any other things to look out for on the Eagle 2020 321RTS? Does it have the touch screen control? I heard if those go out you can't run or check anything.

Judy

We don't have a fifth wheel, and out TT is a 2012. So old that everything is manual switches. I have seen threads and posts where folks have had troubles with the high tech tablets and were stuck with nothing they could do when the tablet was kaput. I believe they have improved on the newer RVs, where there's no battery involved in the tablet.

We have a PDI form on the forum that you can print off and take with you. It's on the first post here:

PDI (Pre-delivery Inspection for purchasing RV's) Checklist with bullets - updated

I'd have the owner show you where everything is located and have him demonstrate that it all works flawlessly. Everything....

Perhaps some members that have that model will pop in and answer your questions better than me.

One thing you need to remember is the components used in all RV's are from the same manufacturers. Also since it is a 5 year old rig the issues caused by COVID, if any, should already be fixed. As JFlightRisk stated give it a good going over and ask the seller to have it connected to power and water, with all systems running.

Thank You - printed it out. I need to have RV Pricing and appraisals do an appraisal so I know if it's priced right.

It may also be worth noting that new units aren’t much more than this one. $59k is the starting price for a 2025 321RSTS.

We have a 2022 model and have been very pleased do far.

Hello, having owned four different bands or manufactures in my life, I have found that all of them are the same. They are all made Cheap. 321 RTS is a great size. We are in a 28.5 Jayco HT and we think maybe another 2 feet would work better. Here is what I recommend. Get the floor plan that will keep you happy. Then, no matter, what else you decide, before any agreements, YOU MUST get a third part independent inspection done. You won't be sorry.

We have a 2022 EAGLE 321RSTS and have been very happy with it. We do not have solar or the gen prep. We do have the BMPRO tablet that controls almost all electronics. The original tablet we had worked perfect until the internal tablet battery died. We replaced the tablet with a newer unit that does not have an internal battery. We have not had any issues with this new tablet. We store our 5th wheel without any 12v batteries during the winter and the tablet starts right up when we reconnect the 12v batteries in the spring. Check to see if the BMPRO tablet in the Eagle you are interested in has the new battery-less tablet. Also check to see of there are redundant controls below the tablet which are built into the frame for the tablet. Some campers did not have the redundant switches.

We absolutely love our 2022 321 RSTS. It had some minor issues when we bought it new, but since has been on numerous long trips without a problem. We took the tablet out and intermittently charged it over the winter months, and just because I had read of problems, I recently just took it to a "phone" store where they put in a new battery for $40 just so i wouldn't have to worry about it. No problems. I'm actually more worried when the time comes to trade, I'll be giving up my trailer where everything works!

We have an older 2011 Eagle 5th wheel. It is 30.5 feet and perfect for us. We have had no issues and the build quality is great. We added 2x200w solar panels and 200AH of lithium batteries, 2K inverter. I have seen the same videos on warning against Covid units, and while I don’t have personal experience, I do have a friend with a 2020 43’ Pinnacle that looks fantastic, but he has had horrendous problems. Small stuff like transfer valves not working on propane to drawers falling apart to major stuff like axels out of alignment resulting in burning off the outside edge of tires on a trip. Turned out the axels were entirely and had to be replaced.

It is your decision and you will have to live with it. Personally, I wouldn’t take the chance.

Hi Judy;
I have also heard your concerns about COVID builds, and I agree that most, if not all problems should be resolved by now.
My wife and I have owned a 2018 321 RSTS since 2021 with NO significant issues. We are 76 now and will be selling ourselves at the end of this season and will not hesitate to recommend a 5th wheel adventure to anyone. But you must do your homework before you buy.
Good luck with your purchase.
