DIY soft start with toggle switches?

I installed the easy start two years ago and my 2000W surge 1600W run Etrailer inverter gen runs the 13.5 AC great. Couldn't be more pleased. BTW got my easy start for $269 when they were on sale.

$35 last year works great.

Why wasn’t it part of a factory install.

Right On RichCarter!!! A friend of mine let me borrow his 2K Honda generator. It’s very quiet at a low load. But at near its top power, like running a 1500 watt electric griddle, it’s just as noisy as an open frame unit. Another friend made a $100 Craigslist purchase of a Harbor Freight Predator 3200 watt open frame generator. (For those familiar with HF 212cc engines, this one is a “hemi”). For an open frame, that thing is amazingly quiet, much quieter than my open frame 4000/3500 Champion. I didn’t have access to a db meter during the test, but the 8 people that listened to both said they were about equal. I agreed with that. I would have immediately bought a HF generator just like it, but it won’t work in a RV application because the way it’s wired it’s 2 1600 watt generators. There is no way to get more than that out of either leg. My Champion will let you pull the full 3500 watts from the single RV plug or the 30 amp twist lock plug. The way to get the quietest sounds from a generator is to either run a bigger inverter generator at a low load so it doesn’t throttle up much or combine 2 smaller units with a parallel kit to acheave the same result.Jay

I own a Honda EU2000. It makes about as much noise as any regular 2KW generator when under load. Now if you're comparing it with a 8700W generator like the one I power my house with, that's a different story. At light loads, the inverter generator hums along very quietly. You hardly hear it. Run it at load and you can't hear yourself think. As I said, borrow one and try it on your AC out before you buy one.

Mine is a HF Predator 3500 peak Watts inverter generator. An almost full load is running my 15k AC with SoftStart and my water heater on electric at the same time. With both running it is putting out 2600+ Watts. I run it in the back of my pickup along side my trailer and we can easily carry on a conversation or watch TV inside and hardly notice the hum of the generator.

I stand by my previous statement….;)

I only know about a few Coleman models as I honestly never worked on any others and just a few thru the years ( never cared to work up on a rv roof so usually turned those calls down ). The Colemans I am familiar with all used capillary tubes as the refrigerant metering device. Rapid equalization of the pressures allowing balanced system at startup so NORMLLY a start cap/relay not needed . But, Throw in bad connections at pedestals, extra long shore power cords, loose breaker terminals ,too small a genny , etc will make 'em hard to start.
