Door gas spring

While we were camping this summer, a big gust of wind came up and hyper-extended the gas spring/shock for the entrance door for our 2016 x213.

Didn't have much luck with the part number from the installed spring, but brought it in to the dealer to find out what I needed.

He wasn't sure, but we ended up with a 10lb weight spring, and it is a pretty good fit.

Just as an FYI in case anyone else needs a new one. Most of the ones he had in stock were 40-60lbs, which probably would have made it very difficult to close the door.

Had the same problem a couple of years ago when the wind caught the door but on mine it ripped the gas shock completely off the door. I ended up using a rivet nut tool to put a new threaded fastener in the bottom of the door.

Also replaced the shock but ended up using the old shock's end fittings as they had better clearance which I needed. Got the shock from Amazon, my go to place.

To prevent this from happening again I installed a short steel cable on the top of the door to prevent it opening too far. Used the rivet tool here too.

Has worked like a champ!

With some minor "adjustments" with the hammer, my old fittings seem to be working well enough.

Thanks for the info on the cable. That was something that was on my mind, so I'll look into it for the springtime.

Ours just got week over years of use (did not leak any fluid). Dealer said they had them in stock, but their price was way high compared to Amazon. The dealer told us, it was a 20"x 20 pounds. The door has no issues staying open in a breeze.

On a recent trip the wind caught our door and snapped it open. One of the plastic end connectors broke. I contacted the manufacturer, Lavanture, who referred me to Industrial Hardware Direct who is their retail outlet for parts. The new end piece cost $3.00 and was shipped to me in 2 days.

Thanks for the info on the cable. That was something that was on my mind, so I'll look into it for the springtime.

Well, after a long weekend of using it, I found that it opened just a bit too much and would hit the arm of the awning when it was opened.

I need to try and do some more "adjustments" on the fittings, and they are still bent a bit which would allow a bit further travel of the door.
Alternatively, I might look for a different arm.
As well, I'm looking at the cable idea that JimD mentioned...
