Does being not level affect the door lock? Where I park my trailer. The area is not level. I have locked the door several times and checked to make sure it was locked. I have gotten phone calls from the storage site that my door is open. I know that the trailer leans to the driver side. Do I need to level it when parked? Mike Dickinson

My 24RL's door is extremely difficult to even close and lock if the trailer is the slightest bit out of level. That 2 x 2 framing is not the sturdiest, especially if there's a "twist" involved. Just being off a couple degrees requires a hard slam. I'm sure fellow campers love it late at night. No problem at home. Go figger.

Our door also opens like this at times. Fortunately we have the grab handle that folds in and that actually helps keep our door from opening. Locking the deadbolt helps too but doesn’t completely solve the problem.

I think it has more to do with your strike plate in relation to the door latch. You might try moving the strike plate on the door jamb and see if this helps.

Agree with Jerry713, sounds like you need to adjust the strike plate. Might need a shim behind it to catch the lock bolt better. I ALWAYS use the deadbolt lock, especially while travelling. Just parking on an unlevel spot shouldn't cause a twist in the framing. The only way I can see getting a twist is if you are lowering the stabilizers and racking the trailer.

Yes it makes a difference, depending on bolt alignment when set up.
Enlarge the bolt opening with a file improves operation.
When setting up, I'll adjust the stabilizers if the bolt doesn't go in smoothly.

Silicone spray the latch and the striker plate. It won't fix it entirely but it'll help a bit.
