Easier access to Greyhawk water filter

I quickly tired of dealing with multiple screws to remove/replace the water filter and pump access panel in the Greyhawk's rear storage compartment. Attaching a couple of lightweight drawer pulls from the hardware store and Velcro stickies allow the panel to pop off and on easily.

It meets my definition of a good mod: Cheap, quick, easy and simplifies my life.

Are the valves on the lines in/out of the filter original? I'm thinking of relocating my filter and adding a bypass valve setup like the water heater has.

I've never thought of Velcro. I bought a piano hinge but have yet felt encouraged to install it. I did install a hinge under the bed on the plywood where the electric stuff is routed.

Yes. The two valves that isolate the water filter housing were installed at the factory.

As part of our recent warranty work, I had our dealer redo some of the wiring in that compartment. The factory worker had passed a couple of large bundles of wires against the filter housing making it difficult to remove, especially without dumping a lot of water.

That's also my winterizing method and it does empty the filter housing. But in the spring when I am sanitizing the water system, I have to do so without a filter cartridge in the housing. Then, after sanitizing, the last thing is to install a new filter. When I do that, the housing is filled with water.

I just blow it out again. For me it beats trying not to spill the water in that small compartment.

But wouldn't blowing air back in have the possibility of de-sanitizing the water system? My compressor, pneumatic hose and fittings as well as the atmosphere are not sterile.

Mine was also almost imposable to service due to the rat at the factory who had to deliberately wrap the wiring, and a water line around the housing. I moved all that out of the way, but decided to take it out completely and use the blue hose filters available almost anywhere. Probable cheaper in the long run anyway.

Well I guess it might, but it's not something I worry about, especially if you're filling it with water again.
