electric step road clearance

Own a 2022 Redhawk 29XK. I've damaged the electric step twice now by high-centering on paved road approach to street curb. My step has only 7 inches clearance. Is that normal?

Can you tell me what you did to fix the steps? I have a new to me 2017 class c 29xk

Thanks for chiming in on the step issue. I crushed our step entering a highway from a pull-off site in Sept. 2024. So badly that the dealer decided it had to be replaced. $940 for the step plus $230 labor.
With new step I drove the 29XK just 4 short trips between RV shops here in town. Leaving the last shop, I drove from paved parking up a very slight incline and scraped the new step too. It surely didn't look like a 7+ inch clearance problem. But when front wheels dip into the street, clearance at the door shrinks quickly. Got home to discover one side of step housing was bent enough to prevent the step from full extension.
Perhaps the bend might have been removed, but by then we decided to unhook step wires to prevent its motor from burning out with the strain and just stop using the automatic step. I don't want repeated repairs. We bought a plastic stool we now carry in the door well. It works fine.

ugh yeah. all the same for me too. Owned 3 weeks hit a turtle on the road bent in now barely come out. And the structural strength is so weak. But strong and hard to try to bend back.

I have a 2023 29MV and have had to use a small sledge hammer to get the step working again. It's not just the step that's low, the leveling jacks have the same clearance.

I have remote property that I'd love to take my RV to but the gravel road to get there has several high peaks that would hit the underside and I'd really hate to rip off a leveling jack.

One solution I'm considering is having the RV lifted. I've found companies that will change the suspension to raise it up from 1 inch to 6 inches. They claim the ride and handling are significantly improved and that it reduces side sway when driving around a curve. The cost is roughly $1000 per inch of lift. I've seen one coach lifted 4 inches and it looked good, but didn't get to discuss it with the owner.

Has anyone else seen this?
