Looking for opinions on Surge Guard EMS versus Progressive Industries EMS

Progressive Industry units have a lifetime warranty and are manufactured in the US of A.

The Surge Guard units are replaced (at your expense) when they go out.

As long as you never plug into an electrical system you won't need either.

I have a hardwired Progressive Industries EMS and am happy with it, for what that's worth.

I have had the TRC which was destroyed by lightning. It did protect my rig except for the microwave.
I now have a PT50C. I am happy with both but the Progressive is repairable saving some money down the road.

Both are modest investments, like insurance worthless until you need them.

I've always been a Progressive Industiries fan. Have the 50 amp hardwired on our unit now. Wouldn't own any other. Have had PI's on several rigs before, all hardwired.

First camper had the portable Progressive Industries unit and on the new camper have the hard wired unit. They have lifetime warranties. On the previous camper had it kick in on some low voltage situations... Worth the money.

I have 2 PT50C's. One for every day use and one for use when/if the primary one has to go back for service/repair. I absolutely will not plug in anywhere without one of them protecting me. I have seen way too many issues around me in the past 6 six years of full time RV'ing to not have one. Including 1 issue with high voltage at my home base site. I was shut off by the EMS and no damage to me, but my s&b neighbors had issues with their electrical devices as a result of the high voltage (132v+).

No experience with the Surge Guard, but very happy with my Progressive Industries units. I have the portable units and won't plug in without them.

Unless there two different models of Surge Guards, the Progressive Industries EMS is the one to get.

Originally, at least, the Surge Guard did just that, and only that, guard against power surges. Maybe they have different models now that do more.

The PT EMS, available in portable or hard wire, and 30A and 50A models, guards against power surges but also protects against brown outs. Brown outs, which is low voltage will ruin most electric motors.

Earlier this year, my PT30A EMS protected me against an open ground. I was getting that message. I was able to work around it by using a 50A to 30A dog bone, then my PT30A EMS and then I was good.

I put a hard wired PI unit in my trailer this season and am happy with it. Their customer support and service is also excellent, which really adds to the quality of a product.

Mine is a 30amp unit, and I have loaded up the electrical draw while plugged into a 30amp circuit. It has displayed current draws of 34amps before, so I'm not sure if that's actually true or if the read out isn't totally accurate...

I did not mention it before but the current draw being displayed is a nice benefit in addition to the protection afforded.

34 amps would not be out of line. Circuit breakers are typically +/- 20% of rated current. So a 30 amp breaker is within specs if it trips anywhere from 24 to 36 amps.
