I have a 2018 F150 with the max tow package and a new Jayco 19MRK. Took them out for a slow ride around the neighborhood the other day to set the brake gain on the Ford integrated brake controller and decided on a setting of 9.0 (available settings are 1-10). The trailer is about 5800 Lbs loaded and seemed to stop pretty well at that number. Anybody with a similar setup that has any recommendations? Is this setting too high or too low?

I had an f150 with a white hawk. Both were a few years older than what you have but if I recall correctly I had mine set pretty high 8 or 9. If it seems to slow you down pretty well without locking the brakes when you manually operate the lever i would not worry about it too much.

When it comes to towing and brake gain I am no expert. But I have a 2023 F150 with the tow package. I just bought a 2022 22rb. It is 6750 GVWR. I was dragging it home, empty, approximately 5,600 dry. I think I remember setting my brake gain at 6?? And it was VERY 'grabby' I had/have no experience using a trailer brake, but did my reading before picking up my camper. So I figured, if the #6 stopped the trailer in its tracks, it was a good setting.

I have a 2014 F150 3.5L Ecoboost with the regular tow package (I believe). It has a 6 speed transmission and a 331 rear end. My trailer (Bullet 248RKS) weighs 5148 min to 6500 max. If I use the tow function, the transmission does a pretty good job with engine braking and handles some pretty steep highway grades with occasional braking. On the flat roads without tow function the factory gain for trailer brakes at 7 does a good job. I don't expect the trailer to be able to stop the truck + trailer when manually applying the trailer brakes alone. Remember to burnish the brakes for a new trailer and expect that warm brakes act differently than cold.

2016 F150 SC, max tow package pulling a 6200 max 23' TT and our gain is at 7 or 8 also. The trailer brakes are of the self-adjusting style, but this year I plan (read "hope to get the time") to pull the drums and inspect them all.

What I was taught was a quick jab of the brakes at 20 mph or so on flat ground should just lock the trailer brakes. I have the same truck and similar loaded weight trailer and it is 7 for me if I recall right. Max tow is like 11K pounds so you should probably not need a setting of nine for your trailer, but from a safety side, a bit high is probably better than a bit low!

My 2023 F 150 had the similar package and setup for brake controller. I have the big screen and there is a feature on it for brake controller settings. This will assist your dash braking setup if you have a similar package.
