My Jayco has 3 vents but none of them had covers. One was a MaxxAir vent so installing a cover on that was easy. The other two were a different brand (I forget which) so I purchased camco covers (Camco Vent Cover, White{Campaign}&cq_cmp=22495123814&cq_con=&cq_term=&cq_plac=&cq_net=x&cq_plt=gp&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22498588234&gclid=Cj0KCQjwu7TCBhCYARIsAM_S3NhbKiNr-tZLZFocRTuoMV8X54PYqv0VQBC3FGlFruCOBrUBexeW5kIaArUMEALw_wc:cool: for them. The brackets that you install to hold the cover aren't flush with the roof because of the sealant Jayco used. Should I use sealant/caulk/eternabond tape to seal the gap between the roof and the cover? I'm worried about it being ripped off while I'm going down the road.

I have Maxxair III covers on my roof with the quick release option so they can fold up for cleaning. They are not sealed with the vent frame except with the mounting brackets. If they were to hit a limb, they would likely be destroyed but would be much more damage if they were attached and sealed to the roof opening IMO.

So your opinion is to not seal or tape around the cover and that a gap between the cover and roof is fine?

That's how mine have been of 3 rigs for over 20 years. No leaks in rain. I opt to leave them slightly open when traveling for ventilation and no problems.
It actually gives leaves and debris a way to get away when they get inside. The screen on the fan keeps bugs and debris from entering the rig.

Great, then I won't worry about it. I was never worried about rain getting in just about the wind when traveling ripping them off.

Our vent cover is the old style with angle brackets screwed to the metal vent frame. Kind of a pain to unscrew the four nuts compared to quick releases to inspect and reseal the Dicor. We leave the vent open all the time unless we're running the A/C. Been in some torrential rains and never had a drop inside.
