Filtered Water Faucet

Last year I installed a water filter (canister type from Home Depot) and plumbed it to the cold water side of the kitchen sink. I was completely disappointed with the flow rate from the filter, so I installed a filter which filtered less just for the flow rate.

This year it's going back to the way that it was. I ordered this faucet, WDF-103-BN to install for drinking water. The finish is a PERFECT match to the brushed nickle kitchen faucet and it will look factory installed.

After making a run to Home Depot to pick up the PEX and line to run for the filtered faucet I'll post some pictures. I think that the install itself should be pretty straight forward and take little time, or at least a lot less time than it did to install the filter itself. Debating putting one in the bathroom as well?

Why not install a whole house filter so all the water is filtered?

I have an outside "blue" filter that I always have installed which will take some impurities and sediment out of the water. I don't have a lot of experience with whole house filtration which is probably why I went in this direction. I use an FXUVC filter which takes out a lot of the "bad" chemicals kin the water, but in doing so the flow is greatly reduced. I would be interested to see if a whole house filter can remove as much and keep the flow to an acceptable level?

Throw the "blue" inline filter away. They are next to worthless, and decrease water flow dramatically.

If you have any mechanical ability, you can build your own whole house filter from parts found at any hardware store. It will last for years and pay for itself in a couple of seasons.

My set up is 12 years old and going strong. All I do is change the filter cartridge annually. The cartridges can be bought for about $5 at hardware stores and Walmart.

I used a whole house filter before a whole house regulator. The first picture below is the initial prototype. The second picture is the current set-up with elbows that allow it to hand from a PVC rack I installed under the skirt of my trailer. The rack stays in place. The filter is removed and placed in storage while in transit.

I think that I like that better than the in-line filter that I am using. So basically you have the filter and a regulator. I am likely to continue the drinking water faucet project that I am doing now BUT maybe incorporate the whole "coach" filter approach instead of what I'm doing now.

So question, that will filter the city portion, do you use that to fill the fresh tank as well?

I typically fill my fresh water tank at home before departure.

If I need to fill it while on the road I use my water filter set-up.

On my new Jayco the city water fill is controlled by valves that allow filtered water to go into the fresh tank.

Now, I really like the whole camper filter, and I think that I found a way to permanently mount it on the inside near the city inlet.

That's the way to do it. No worries about freezing, etc. and fewer problems with algae growing. Nice looking job on the faucet, btw!
