I have been looking to replace that nasty thing Jayco calls a mattress in my camper. I have been looking at latex and foam to find something similar to my icomfort at home. I read a review by a woman who bought a foam mattress for her RV and it developed mold on the bottom side within a few months, this sure got me thinking. My mattress sits on a box with a plywood top which allows no ventilation so I fired off an email to a company that sells on Amazon. This is the response I got.

Thanks for contacting us. We do not require the use of our box spring or bed foundation for the warranty to be covered. However, placing the mattress on a solid plywood foundation will void the warranty. This is because by putting it on a solid wood base with no ventilation, it can promote mold growth. A bed frame with wooden slats would be fine, but a plywood sheet won’t.

So my question is what is everyone upgrading to when it comes to a nice mattress, has anyone had a mold problem when placing it on a plywood base.

No mold forming here but don't know how long and under what conditions for mold to form. If you are concerned you might consider placing some slats on the plywood or, drill holes in the plywood depending on what's under it.

I prop up our foam mattress in the middle to allow ventilation under it while in storage.. When in use we flip it over when we change the sheets.
