We are on track to convert the forum to new software. It has been many years since we've had a platform update, and it's finally time.

To do this, we'll need to close the forum. This is scheduled for January 21-23 beginning very early in the morning (subject to change if there are complications). The forum will be back online Thursday Jan 23rd (exact time unknown). There will be some noticeable changes upon returning to open:

The Forum is moving to a new modern software platform (XenForo). All the usual controls will be available, but buttons and functions will be moved around a bit. Modern software means a much better browsing experience! Look for a "How To" thread in the forum admin section after we reopen to help with your questions.

Your account is already integrated into the RV LIFE network login system and your login will not change.

Other changes:
  • The forum colors and header image will be updated
  • Image storage and avatar size will be increased.
  • PM inbox storage will be increased
  • Responsive for mobile use: There is no mobile app needed. XenForo has a mobile view that is entirely responsive to device size. Use a browser to open the site and you'll have a good view. You can even set an app-like icon on your phone (really a bookmark)

New functions:
Image handling will be improved. You can still upload images in the usual way but will also be able to simply paste directly into a post.

PMs will be labelled as "conversations"; same function, new title and tada: images can be added to these conversations.

There will be an updated and improved table editor and new tools for great-looking replies to posts.

New Albums to hold images in your profile if desired

New OP badge to denote the Original Poster (thread starter) of a thread - handy for long topics.

RV LIFE Pro Members

Ad free viewing for forum members who have RV LIFE Pro subscriptions. (Trip Wizard and the RV LIFE Mobile GPS) they will also have a cool new badge displaying on their profiles

Be patient after the site opens, it takes a little time to get settings dialled in, but we will bring the site back online as soon as possible (even while adjustments are still being made).

If you have any trouble logging in, please use the contact link at the bottom of the site to reach the help desk. We can help with account issues, and password resets if needed.

We'll all have a learning curve when the site updates, but we believe that the faster site response and more robust features will be a great improvement.

we'll see if this old dog can learn the new tricks!

Good luck - as a long time person in IT, I never looked forward to any major upgrade or platform change. I hope it goes smoothly and remember - it's just a forum. :)

Janet, thanks for the heads up and explanation of new features. Can’t wait. As someone who has headed up a number of platform redesigns/launches, I found a simple FAQ somewhere was helpful in answering a lot of basic questions (and reducing your inbox volume :D).

We are all excited! Just LOVE change! Especially when it's for the better.

hahaha - that's the spirit. Remember this next week when the board is faster, but you can't find the buttons in their old places ;)

Has there been any consideration on passing out forum withdrawal meds to us to deal with being cut off cold turkey?:D

I don't think a "How To thread" will work for me; will you have a "paper version how to encyclopedia" in big letters, or at least include a lighted magnifier, that you can mail by USPS to me a year in advance? Please! :)

My last 2 weeks have been a blur of confusion so I am an old hand!
New laptop, converting data from old laptop, Missing drivers from new laptop, sliding shower door spontaneously broke all over our bath room, dealing with the warranty on that and today is our 44th anniversary!

Happy 44th Anniversary Norty. I would say a new shop vac would be one option for an anniversary present, but I learned a LONG time ago to never give the DW a gift that has a cord. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the update and the 12 step program Janet :)
I'm sure we'll all figure it out the new system eventually and will love it :)
Yes Happy 44th norty1! That is quite an achievement these days...you must have a good women there who also loves glamping :)

1. The check is in the mail. Update: I sent you a Venmo yesterday.
2. I'll love you in the morning.
3. The new software is great. The upgrades have all been smooth. Everybody loves it.

In the olden days of tv the stations would go off the air at midnight or so with the national anthem being played. Will this take place on the last night before the turn of the century of sorts happens here? [big grin]

You mean they don't still play the national anthem?
The test pattern was my favorite show but I have not been up at midnight for many years.

It would be nice if members share how they get thru F.U.S.S. (Forum Upgrade Software Syndrome). next week.
