Ok, I am a newbie here and so I guess this is the place to ask this question. I have been paying attention and for some reason can still not figure out what the post icons mean when they are blue envelopes or sometimes an orange envelope?

Look at the very bottom of the page when you have a list of posts up. It tells you new posts or orange which are "hot" -- meaning lots of reads and replies.
