Hi All -

First post for our used 2013 RedHawk 31’ XL.

Just noticed this crack developing near front slide out. I am obviously concerned, but looking for some answers here as to what happened and what can be done.

Thanks!

is the wall pushing in or out?

It looks like it may be pushing in from the outside. If so I'd check for something above the slide that is getting jammed in when you bring the slide in. If you don't see anything, check the seals for damage as perhaps something was there. I'm not sure the motor is strong enough to do the damage, but if its breaking inwards, something is pushing from the outside.

If its cracking towards the outside, I'd double check the rails under the coach and the slides. There's a number of articles on here that have the older slide rails (under the slide) and not the schwintek which are slides on the side of the slide. If the rails are under, perhaps one of the bearings has come loose and when the slide is out it doesn't have the proper angle/reinforcement with those missing causing a stress point.

Thank you so much for the detailed response. I will do a little research on slide rails and see what I come up with.

If the wall structure is weak in that area, that in itself could cause the crack. When these slides go in and out, there's more pressure than people think being put on those walls. So if the wall has become loose due to a weld/fastener inside the wall corner failing, the slide will continue to push until the hall effect kicks in which senses pressure to stop the slide. It's an older RV so I doubt if Jayco will do anything. Myself, I'd baby the slide and see how it goes and if it gets worse. Repairing the problem is pretty intensive. The real way to fix it is to completely tear the wall out and rebuild it. Everything else is a band-aid. I'd also check to see if the slide needs synced.
