What's the best app for finding gas stations (not diesal) For my 38ft trailer.

Also, can I tap screws on the inside walls for hanging. And what maximum length.

Newbie, only towed much shorter race trailers.

We use RV Life Trip Wizard and the onboard GPS in the truck.

Mounting screws should be about 1 1/4" or less. We found 3M Command Strips to be a better option. for hanging pictures and such.

X2 on both counts.

There is a website and an app called
GasBuddy
which will allow you to shop for the best price on gasoline for your rig, and show you the location of each station.
Use in conjunction with RV Life Trip Wizard so you can pull right in with 38'.

Welcome to the forum!

Most RV apps will require a subscription. If you travel often enough it’s worth it. If not and you have a passenger they can use Google to find gas stations then use the street view to help determine whether or not you can get into a station with a 38’er. Our TT is also 38’ and that’s what we do since we don’t travel enough to justify any app memberships.

We use gas and fortunately, the amount of travel each day is no more than a single tank. Our travel distance/time rules are to keep it around 3 hours or stop by 3PM. We use RV Trip Wizard to pick campsites based upon our gas tank range.
Each day when we stop for the night at a campsite, we disconnect and get a fill up driving the truck only. Much less stress/danger and we can hit the grocery/walmart/fast-food while we're out and back to the camper before dark to finish setup.
Safer driving too.

Same for us. Works pretty well for us travelers who wish we could travel more.

We do similar (except the range) when we can. Except in a bit of "reverse" now that we have a motorhome. I will take every opportunity I can get to NOT drive the combination through a gas station. If we want to go out to eat, we'll go to our CG and unhook the Jeep and take it out. If we're starting the travel day and need fuel, I'll leave the Jeep unhooked until after we fuel up if the fuel stop that I've identified is close by. We did similar with truck/trailer when we were towing that. I would drop that thing in a heartbeat and go run errands in the truck if that's the way it worked out. I always tried to ensure the truck was full when I hooked it back up to leave a site.

But our driving days are more like 8 hr minimum, so I've gotten pretty good at identifying fuel stops along the way. Especially since my "navigator" is usually unavailable. In the truck I tried to not get less than 1/3 tank before I was looking for a fuel stop unless I was familiar with the route and knew I could stretch it. In the motorhome my threshold is 1/2 tank. At those thresholds, I have plenty of options to move on if my chosen stop doesn't pass the "sniff" test.

Gas Buddy is helpful for finding stations but it’s only as good as the users who post. Often, there will be no posted price so it’s a crapshoot. I’m fortunate in that I have a 50-gallon auxiliary diesel tank, so my range is around 800 miles. I scout out stations near where we’re camping, so I can unhook and go fill up rather then dragging a trailer through a station. Otherwise, I’d check Google earth/street view to ensure access.

X3 on Command hooks, but be sure to wipe down the surface with alcohol first. I’ve found the strips don’t stick well on the vinyl wallpaper otherwise.

I forgot to mention that part of the question too, and I agree with this.

We keep a pack of alcohol pads in the camper specifically for this.

Incidentally, we tried to use some non-3m stickies for another project. Cleaned the area well with alcohol, but they still came un-stuck within a couple days. So make sure you get the real, brand name 3M stuff.

Our real 3M command hook items generally stay pretty stuck. In some cases a little too well. Like on the wooden divider between the cab and the house on our motorhome. We went to re-do some things and the command strips peeled off the finish because the little tabs broke. On the ones we were able to use the tabs for, they came off relatively clean. They've been there since shortly after we bought our rig in 2018, and this happened just a few weeks ago.

I had some installed in my trailer's "basement" on a not quite vertical surface, and they pulled the vinyl off the underlayment.

All of that is to say that if installed correctly, Command products have worked very well for us.

For screws in the luan, I try to keep it no more than 3/4" and I'm SUPER careful with them. I'll use a battery screw gun to get them started and mostly in, then I'll switch over to a hand screw driver to snug them the rest of the way. I've had good success keeping the screws from stripping out using that method.

We also take a lot into consideration about any app we choose by it's privacy policy and how much of that information they sell to third parties.

One popular app mentioned here has this in their privacy policy: ""We cannot ensure that all of your private communications and other personal information will never be disclosed in ways not otherwise described in this Privacy Policy. By way of example (without limiting the foregoing), we may be forced to disclose personal information to the government or third parties under certain circumstances, third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications, or users may abuse or misuse your personal information that they collect from our Application.""

Wife uses all stays and we have great success finding gas station to accommodate our 52’ class C with tow car combo.

Use command hooks where possible and if you screw be real careful and triple check your depth there’s no one length you can use to avoid hitting wires or mechanicals, etc.. just be super careful! But if I were to pick a length I’d say 1/4”!

Can't really speak to gas stations. We're weekenders and haven't gone far enough that we had to stop in between point A and B. So I'll Leave that to others to speak to.

As for hanging pictures etc.. I'll echo everyone else that has suggested 3M Command hooks.

We traveled from the west side of Michigan to Lubbock TX a week ago and are heading back on 9/22/24. I use the Trip wizard, the Pilot/FlyingJ app and the Love's app to find gas stations. I am pulling a 36+ft Jayco Eagle FW, so about 53 ft long.
I am finding that many, if not most, of the FlyingJ have RV lanes to one side or the other of the regular gas lanes. I used the regular lanes at both Pilot & FlyingJ on the way down. They both have their regular gas pumps set further out from the building, so have had no problem getting in and out of the pumps. Much easier than Love's and Pilot/FlyingJ prices have been significantly less than Loves.
Agree with others on the Command strips. Safer as you never know where wiring & such are in the walls.

Gas Stops

I use these magnetic strips from Amazon; "12 Pack Ultra Thin Cabinet Door Catch Stainless Steel Cabinet Magnetic Door Catch Cabinet Magnets Adhesive Drawer Latch Cabinet Magnetic Catch for Kitchen Closet Door Magnet Stick on Cupboard Wardrobe"
They also have holes for screws.
