GenY versus MORryde

Right now, we are probably getting a Seismic 4113 toy hauler within the next week or two. If that holds on, we have an appointment with MORryde in February to have their Independent Suspension added. I am doing everything I can to make the ride on this camper as smooth as possible.

The Seismic comes with a MORryde cushioned fifth wheel hitch. In my opinion, they are very good hitches. But if I can get even better, I may switch.

Does anyone have real world experience with both the MORryde and the GenY? I am not going with the GenY gooseneck. I'm talking about the GenY fifth wheel hitch.

I don't mind spending the money if it's worth.
 
I would go with the Gen Y fifth wheel kingpin. It will still mate with a hitch in the bed of your truck and it should not have to cushioned because the kingpin on the fifth wheel will already be cushioned. Make sure the MorRyde kingpin will be ok mated to your tow vehicle hitch choice by asking the MorRyde customer service. Some hitch pins have to have a kit on their MorRyde that basically lock outs some of the benefits of the MorRyde technology.

If you don't need it maybe try negotiating the hitch at purchase so you won't have the cost up front. The MorRyde may work fine also as long as it mates with the truck bed hitch without the lock out kit.

I just removed an Anderson hitch and installed a B&W companion. They have been around for a while and are very popular. They attach to the B&W turnover ball in the bed of your tow vehicle.

Do lots of research and reading so you won't have to do it but once!

Hi, we just got a Seismic Luxury 4113. Haven’t picked it up yet as it’s in Michigan and we are in Utah. How do you like the trailer so far? Any pros/cons? Curious about the suspension that you did to it, how was the ride before vs.after ? We are also doing the GenY hitch on our rig too.
 
It's funny you posted this today. It's 3:30 am Eastern time and I just woke up. Checking my emails and then jumping in the shower. We're starting the 750 mile trek to Elkhart hopefully by 5:00. Should arrive tomorrow by noon.

The Gen Y is already on the 4113 but all I've done was a test run. When we return Saturday afternoon, the MORryde I/S will be installed and I'll give you an update.
 
I did change to the GenY Kingpin about two weeks ago. I have a friend who recently bought a new Brinkley and his came with the GenY kingpin. But he wanted to go with the GenY Gooseneck. He ordered the GenY gooseneck from eTrailer. He sold me his GenY kingpin for $500 and my help with my tractor. Those things are danged heavy. The GenY kingpin he had is the same model that works with the Seismic. So I bought it.

Honest recommendations.
1. If I had to do it again and pay full price, I probably would not. The MORryde hitch is such a good hitch, I don't know if it's worth the full price. I only used my MORryde hitch for the 100 mile trip home from the dealership but it was a nice smooth ride. But paying only $500, I feel it was a good deal. On a grading scale, it's like going from a 9 to a 10.

2. If you do decide to go with the GenY, by all means order the $50 bolt kit from eTrailer with it. The MORryde hitch Jayco uses has ten grade 5 bolts. The GenY bolt kit uses twelve Grade 8 bolts. Well worth the peace of mind.
 
I’ll start by saying I know little to nothing when it comes to fifth wheel hitches. OP you sounded pretty dead set on the gooseneck option. What is the big difference between say a Gen Y gooseneck and a Gen Y 5th wheel hitch?

Pretty simple. The GenY kingpin is used on a normal fifth wheel hitch just like probably 98% of the fivers out there.

The GenY gooseneck is used with just a 2-5/16" ball mounted in the bed of your truck. Horse trailers and Equipment trailers commonly use this type of set-up.

Yep I understand the difference between the two but there are people who use the Gen Y gooseneck hitch on their 5th wheel. My question is what is the benefit to going with a traditional 5th wheel hitch that mounts in the bed of the truck over a gooseneck hitch? Seems like if both hitches are cushioned not having to deal with the weight of a traditional 5th wheel bed mounted hitch that consumes a lot of bed space would be a big g benefit.

That is probably the biggest benefit most people say. My Ford/Reese fifth wheel hitch is one heavy beast. But some RV manufacturers will void warranties right away with the use of a gooseneck.

In my situation, I already had the fifth wheel hitch that came from the factory with the truck. I also had my friend who sold me his new GenY kingpin for only $500. I also have a tractor with a tool that can lift a hitch out of the truck bed with my front end loader. So I almost had to go with the king pin set-up.

Space in the bed and no heavy hitches are probably the biggest reason I see people going gooseneck. But double check with your dealer if you have any issues.

I saw where Gen Y has a new gooseneck hitch out for 5th wheels that is self latching. Just drop the trailer on the gooseneck ball, attach safety chains and roll. I guess it might save someone from having to climb up the side of the bed to couple a traditional style gooseneck.

That's the kind my friend got for his Brinkley. It's pretty impressive.
 
The hitch to go with is ANY airride style hitch. You will never regret getting one. We spend lots of bucks on rv & tow truck then buy a hitch that doesn't make our trip comfortable. I went thru 4 types then went airride so I know first hand not getting the best 1st.
We use an AirSafe but the BD3/5 are great also. There are several makers.
