Good Sam vs Coachnet

Visiting friends in Bedford Hills New York. "Pull into the yard, it's hard packed" they say. Well, it's not and I sink my wheels into soft mud like material about 30 feet off the road.

No worries, in addition to Coach Net which came with the new RV, I purchased Good Sam Road Service because it covers all my vehicles.

I call Good Sam and explain what happened. "Oh, it's on private property? We don't cover that. You'll have to secure your own service for that". After speaking to supervisor and confirming I am not covered I accidentally released some choice words on what I thought of their service.

I am panicking now as my RV is stuck in mud and I'm not sure what to do. I call CoachNet expecting the same reply. "Ok, let me find someone to come out and I will call you back. Next thing I know Sal's towing is calling that they are on the way. Less than one hour later they are winching me out and I am back on the road.

Two lesson here. Don't go off road into ground that you don't know and Good Sam was worthless in this situation. CoachNet really came through for me.

I am very disappointed in Good Sam.

I am glad to hear that you are safely un-stuck... I have tested the "hard packed" too, and started to sink the fronts - but was able to back them out before it was too late.

As far as the difference between GS and any other service... I am sadly finding out the hard way (as you are too) that they are NOT what they claim they are and not worth investing any more money into.

Thank you for posting this experience. My year with CoachNet is almost up and I am starting to look at coverage. This information about GS doesn't make any sense to me. Trailer Parks are private property (most of them) and GS won't come onto private property? So I guess if I have a problem with the TT I should stay parked outside the park if I have GS service. Hmmmm.

They wouldn't not provide "winching" or pull out on private property due to "liability". The fact that the Ower was right there and willing to sign waiver didn't matter to them. Coachnet had no issue with it.

I let my GS road service lapse and I have been inundated with offers to renew. Maybe I should take a look at Coachnet.

I remember from my last RV that CoachNet was more expensive than Good Sam (GS). I guess from this experience I am reminded of the difference between price and value.

If I had only GS I am not sure what I would have done, but I know it would not have been cheap.

Good Sam covers all your vehicles which is a good thing since it could replace services like AAA, which was my thinking. And to be fair, if I was on my own property I guess they may have come out.

All I can say is that in my time of need, Good Sam denied service and CoachNet sent the assistance I needed.

I have had Good Sam road service for many years and on 2 occasions called them for a tow in my yard.

No problem. Quick dispatch and covered.

Customer service is all either of them sell. They all call the same road service companies.

Yes, if I was in "my yard" they would have responded. But because it was somebody else's property they would not respond, even with the property owners permission. And this was for "winching out", not towing.

They stated they were concerned about possible liability where as CoachNet was not.

And yes, same road service companies but Good Sam would not dispatch any provider because of their policy.

I am sure Good Sam is good for most issues. All I am saying is the one time I needed them they did not help.
