Grey Tank woes...

Hello all, I have a 2015 Jayco Jayflight and the grey tank meter reads 2/3rds all of the time. I have heard of the black tank meter getting fouled but the grey? Anyone got a solution other than warranty work?

Try filling and adding Thetford Level Gauge clear. I have used it before. Also could try putting a bunch of warm water in there and take her for a drive as well. I think I would try both at same time. 10 or so minutes with mixture sloshing around should do the trick.

Have you flushed and filled a time or two with clear water, yet?


Then crawl underneath and see if all 4 wires are connected and there is no mud, leaves, nests, etc. touching the outside ends of the probes..

Fill it up and let it sit a while to loosen the "debris". There are some chemicals I'm sure you can add as well. Someone will know better than me thought.

The underside is sealed. Where are these four wires you speak of? Yes to the first question. It seems to have stuck after the very first fill up. It was very full though.

There are 4 probes into the tank. Bottom (common), 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4. [Wait, there may be a 5th at full]. Each probe sends a very small signal (conductivity of the grey water) back to the control box.

With the enclosed bottom, you won't be able to service the wires without dropping the plastic.

With the tank empty, you may be getting a reading from just the damp walls. Once 2 probes are under water, you may start getting accurate readings.

Have you checked the readings as the tank is being filled for flushing?

Yes, they never change. The tank whether full or empty always reads 2/3rds...weird.

question when you wash dishes do you put grease in the sink, or wipe it out before you put it in. tank sensors are notorious for false readings, grease, food particules, etc will give false readings, flush tank with soapy water several times and problem will probably be resolved.

My gray tank started doing the same this summer. I added a few gallons of water to the empty tank with a ½ cup of liquid fabric softener. After a few trips sloshing around the gray tank gauge changed its readings. I suspect it is grease on the gauges.

My gray tank and black tank gauges are never accurate. I use Calgon water softener and dawn dish soap to keep them clean and it makes no difference, every day seems to be a different reading.

RV Digestit. Google it or check your local RV place. Follow the directions on the bottle. Cleans EVERYTHING. Black tank, gray tank etc. I've only used it as a tank chemical, but we used it on a friend of mines where his gauges weren't working at all. There was crap that came out of that tank from probably 2 years before. It eats and breaks loose everything. All his gauges worked after that.

I got a really good tip on treating both the grey and black tanks and has worked remarkably. Fill both tanks with water all the way up. Then add Murphy's oil soap and let them sit for at least 4 hours. I let mine set for a couple of days. Flush both 2 times. If you still have a bad reading when their empty repeat the process. 1 cup of the soap will be plenty for each tank. Nothing will cling to the walls or sensors after that. I used hot water on the first run to soak into the remnants of anything in the tanks. Once a season do this and nothing will stick to the inside of the tank.

Same here. I pretty much ignore the black and gray water gauges.
