During our last trip wife noticed liquid dripping from the cover. I took a sample and as it wasn’t black water I put it off until we got home. Investigation today says the last squirrel I hit had a really hard head! The outlet pipe was shattered.
My question is what type of sealant is used for the outlet. I was able to loosen the clamp and work it loose by hand so it must not be glued in (thank God)

Thank you in advance

I had to do a gray water plumbing repair on a friends TT a few years ago after they caught it on the way out of their driveway. I could not find anyone that sold the black ABS pipe, either at a big plumbing store, nor RV dealer. When I asked the dealer service manager what exactly they used when they had to do repairs, he said schedule 40 PVC, and paint it black afterwards. Really??

So back to the plumbing store for a length of PVC, a couple of rubber clamp-on couplers, some primer and a can of glue. Some PVC glues are listed on the can as ok for the ABS also, you just need to read the fine print.

About a half hour later, it was all fixed. Measure the old piping to see if it's 1 1/4" or 1 1/2".

Black ABS pipe is not impossible to find but you’ll likely have to order it. It takes ABS cement or a Furnco coupler. Not sure what type of adhesive they use to attach it to the tank to allow it to be removed; maybe plumbers putty. The reason they use ABS is it has properties that are more suited to where it is being used. Better resistance to shock and cold and is a bit stiffer than PVC. Since it’s not under pressure you don’t need schedule 40 PVC.

Depending on what location of the country you are in abs pipe and fittingscould be hard to find but I would try your local plumbing wholesale supplier.

I absolutely agree it's overkill, but the break on my friends TT was before the dump valve and had to get fixed. We were on day one of a week-long stay. The explanation I got from the plumbing store as to why they don't stock it, was that it's not code to use it in structures, and they weren't an RV specific place. Made sense to me.

The RV dealer I stopped at apparently doesn't get a lot of plumbing damage repairs, so they don't keep any in stock either. Easier to run to (the same) store and buy the PVC.

I was very happy to find the OD of both types to be the same dimension, and it worked out well.

Here you go,

Good to now the big "A" does have the ABS. Thanks for the links.
Are you sure you didn’t hit a deer? Just kidding!

You can certainly use pvc pipe and fittings but if you are connecting it to the abs pipe or fitting I would use green transition glue that is used for connections from pvc to abs.

If you need to glue PVC to ABS, must use glue rated for both. Or, you can join with rubber sleeve and pipe clamps. Also at A.
