Heavy Duty Extension

Good Morning
Is a 15amp outdoor extension cord ok to use to plug in at home the dealer said we must use a heavy duty cord.

There are many variables to answer your questions:

1) What are you planning to have RUNNING or ON in the TT when plugged in at home?
If you are using it to keep the fridge on the night before you leave, then YES.
If you are using it to run A/C, Television and some lights then run the microwave, you will need to have a 30 amp breaker and outlet installed specifically for your TT.

2) How long of extension cord are you using to run the TT?
If you are using it to keep the fridge on the night before you leave and the cord is less than 10 feet, you will be OK.
DO NOT use this cord if you are running the A/C and other items. You will find the cord will get warm (if not hot) to the point it could melt.

Running the A/C alone on a 15 amp extension could cause your breaker to trip. You have line loss of power an amps when you use an extension cord and the 30 to 15 adapter plug.
To answer you in short, you should really have a dedicated 30 amp service for your TT. No more problems or issues.

We had a 30amp 120V plug installed outside on the garage. It's inside a box similar to camp site access only smaller.
It came in real handy when we use to tow.

I have a diagram somewhere, and will post it as soon as I find it. It may come in handy.

thanks that was good information I will verify with Ken he does have a power source just inside the garage that he set up for our Welder perhaps it is suitable.

A word of caution..............Please check that service first with a meter or find out if that is 110 volts before you plug in your TT.
The service he has for the welder could be 220 volts. That will not work on your TT. To save you money, DO NOT even plug it in that outlet unless you are 100% sure that it is 110 volts and NOT 220 volts.
