Hey everyone,

I ran across this deal for a 2000 generator so I thought that I would post it. I bought one and it started on the first pull and has ran flawlessly for 3 hours so far. It is not as loud as a 2 stroke by far, and I doubt that it would actually put out 2000 watts, but it might work well for some folks.

I know... it is not a Honda and never will be. It is not a Yamaha and it never will be.

Some people may not want to pony up $1000 for a once or twice a year generator.

I will only be using this for Walmart or Casino parking lot overnights.

My 2 stroke 1000W genny worked well with my 184Bh, and it operated the AC, but it wouldnt run everything + it didnt have a large fuel capacity. I am fairly certain that this will do everything I need except the for the microwave and the AC at the same time. I also think that I can make it through the night with this one without refueling.

It will not run a rooftop AC. It is a cheap generator. It was worked well for me SO FAR. On Home Depot website it gets pretty good ratings. If you need a cheap generator that wont break the bank, and isnt 200 pounds... then you might try this one. It weighs 44 pounds.

My 184BH with the AC running, 3 lights, water pump, tv, and digital antenna runns 800 watts.

Great price for this generator. Be aware that 80 db will not make for good neighbor relations. However, if you are boondocking away from everyone this is a great deal.

Thanks for sharing, that genny db rating is pretty noisy and would not bode well if your neighbors in close proximity. As TNchuck said, if you are boon docking away from others it sound like a great deal. I run a 2000 watt invertor genny made by champion that has a 53 db rating and I have run it with close neighbors and they did not find it inoisy. They sell for $499.00

After running it for 3 hours, I do not believe the noise to be at 80db. My 2 stroke genny was 72 from 6 feet and this is less noisy than my 2 stroke.

That depends on if you are one of the people that ponied up $1000 and thinks that anything louder is unacceptable. For me... Generators are for boondocking only.

There a plenty of people who paid far more for solar systems and serious battery banks who complain about my Honda...which by the way I got used on CraigsList for $600.

What is the common accepted DB level for CGs?

53-58Db is the standard set by Honda and Yamaha. They are very quiet, both really sip fuel and generally nice units. There are a couple lower cost alternatives claiming this Db rating, Champion comes to mind but I haven't been around one to know if they really compare. I have read where people question how the Db was measured on the Champion, they think it's loader than Honda & Yamaha. There numerous threads on this, you could read for a month on the different forums.

I have a Honda eu2000i that I picked used for $600. It works great for me, I feel worth the money, and would recommend one to anyone looking for generator to use while camping.

I read this from google about generator noise...

"Acceptable sound levels depend on the situation. Portable generators' noise levels range from 47 to 79 decibels, with an average of about 75 decibels. For camping, note that the National Park Service requires sound levels no higher than 60 decibels at a distance of 50 feet."

also read this - "A spark arrester approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture or U.S. Forest Service is especially important for portable generators used for camping and to help prevent fires in general."

Its probably more of a compliant thing then anything else. If it disturbs your neighbor camper then it becomes an issue. I suspect the complaining neighbor camper will win the battle...

ALot of places we have gone to have separate places where generators are allowed to be used. ALso it is becoming more and more generator use restrictions are in place especially here on the East side of the US where 8AM-10AM and then again from 4:30PM-7:30PM seem to be the "NORM" hours you can even run your generator.

With this in mind I elected to spend alot of my efforts on running in quiet mode with beefed-up battery systems and using Inverters. Adding solar panels is my next big project. Then be able to re-charge my batteries the next day with-in the time allowed to run the generators. If I need 120VAC to run something outside I just run my 120VAC extension cord to it and turn it on... Most of the Natl Forest places here on the East side of the US I have camped at have a 8AM to 8PM generator run time setup. When we are setup camp in these places and have other campers around I always ask if the neighbor camper minds if I run my generator and my generator is the approved 2KW Honda generator.

My 2KW generator sits in the back of my truck bed which has a folding hard plastic bed cover and it is really quiet operating in the bed of the truck especially if I just drop down the tail gate and leave the top bed cover in place. I can't hear it inside the POPUP that is it hooked to.

I have not run into any public camping place that allows the use of the generator 24/7 or even after 10PM at night.
