Holder for Storing Weight Distribution Bars

I became very tired of having to store the weight distribution bars in the storage bay of the White Hawk only to then end up getting everything else in there exposed to grease. I tried putting them inside of bins but the bins had to be so big to fit the bars, it took up a lot of space, and anything else in the bin would be a mess.

I had a left over sewer hose carrier that had been mounted under the bumper of my previous hybrid camper. So, I mounted it to the ceiling of the storage bay by tapping sheet metal screws into the aluminum support beams. Then, I took a square shaped U-Bolt and hack sawed off half of one side of it. I took the long side of the U-Bolt and screwed it into the sewer hose carrier in an existing spot where it appeared I could screw it. You can see this in the photo. This created a rotatable hook that I can use to hold the 90 degree bend (greasy part) of the weight distribution bars in an upright position so that they remain out of the way of the rest of the storage compartment and won't touch other things in there.

Hopefully, this will help me keep the storage bay cleaner when I am storing the weight distribution bars in there.

Nice... I like that idea. I've seen the hooks that people install to hang the bars and considered them, but my Equalizer bars are HEAVY and I think it would be a pain in the neck to hang on hooks. A piece of PVC pipe that I could slide them into sounds like a much better idea!

I keep a rag in my storage bin and wipe them clean before storing. Nothing gets greasy. I add new grease every time I hook up, so I know there's no grit or dirt to grind the mating surfaces away.

However, that's a cool mod. I think I'll do that to my TT. Looks like a nice way to organize the space.

Most of the campsites we go to have concrete or asphalt pads. When we setup we put our outdoor rug down and since it can't be staked to the ground we have to weigh it down on all 4 corners. I use the WDH bars as corner weights for it. The are heavy and somewhat thin and work pretty well.

At home my hitch head and bars are stored in the corner of the garage.
At the campsite, the bars are stored on the ground underneath the trailer tongue. the hitch head stays on the truck. I use a ball cover to minimize the possibility of grease xfer.

Very cool idea!

Only thing about that for me is that I don't want to get sand / grit stuck to the grease and then grinding when being used as I tow.

That and the fact that all it takes is one occurrence of a couple little kids fooling around with them and walking off with one. That could ruin a trip real quick.

True. I keep mine in the storage bay mostly so that I don't invite someone to steal them. At home my RV is a fairly long walk from my garage so even there I like keeping them in the storage bay of the RV.

Don't think there is much resale for 20 pound 30 inch pieces of steel. Kids might steal some beer but I would guess that no one has ever lost their hitch bars
