Hot water tank

Leave the water until the next trip. At the end of the season (October) I drain it.

I also leave it in drain and flush when winterizing in the fall, then flush, sanitize in the spring.

Once I fill the HWT for the campig season, it doesn't get emptied until I winterize it. I nave never "sanitized" the HWT. Why? Once you turn the tank on, it heats up to about 140-150 degrees which kills about anything that's in there. Besides, the closest I get to ingesting any water from the HWT is when I wash my face.

I always drain the water heater before towing. If the trailer is staying, then I leave the water in it.

If I use my non chlorinated well water I found out that I have to drain the hot water tank if letting the trailer set up. After not using the trailer for two months and forgetting to drain the tank we had VERY smelly hot water. DW was not happy. Now I drain it after every trip. I suppose the quality of your well water may be a factor as well.

At our walk through the dealer rep said we should drain it if we are not going to be camping for two or more weeks. We're new to travel trailers so I followed the dealer's suggestion.

I used to drain it when we traveled. If you can drop 50-100 lbs. by draining it, why not?

By not draining your HWT, you have about four (or more depending on your tank's size) gallons of water that you can gain access to from your low-point drain. It could prove to be blessing if an emergency situation occurs while you're towing.

I fill it with water in the spring, and leave it till fall, along with leaving the reefer on during that time. There is no reason to drain it until freezing time comes around. Been doing that with RV's for 20 years.

Since we use our RV a lot I always leave it until fall, however if you anticipate your RV sitting for long periods of time between trips I would drain the tank.
