How to quiet an A/C unit?

Has anyone done a DIY project or is there a commercial product to quiet an A/C unit?

I have two A/C units and they are both LOUD. I always have to turn the TV up when the main A/C (rear living) comes on and then turn the TV down when the A/C goes off. The bedroom A/C wakes up the wife and I when it comes on at night so after a couple nights of not getting quality sleep the grumpy DW orders me to figure out a solution...lol. She's not that grumpy but did ask for help to figure out a solution.

Hopefully someone has ran across this and has a solution.

Any help or suggestions?

Does running the ac's on the low fan setting help? Ours are noisy also but that seems to make dw happy. We hardly ever run them both unless we are wanting a quick cool down. Our br unit is not on at night.

They are just loud not much you can do to quiet them, like Norty said try lowering the fan speed. If you had to sleep next to your a/c compressor at home it would be the same problem.

They are loud. I have thought about adding a sound damping material to the sheet metal shroud. Never done it, just keep thing about it. Moving air is extremely noisy noisy.

I have an old hvac fan for a floor fan in my garage. When it is on I do not hear my radio.

I had a noisy A/C unit in the living area. I’d have to describe it as a “drumming”, meaning it had a throbbing sound that would get louder then softer. After a few outings and lying in bed listening to it I decided it was vibration coming from the fan motor (praying it wasn’t the compressor). I figured what I was hearing was certainly vibration, likely coming from worn bearings.
I took the shroud off and wiggled the fan shaft. I could detect a very slight looseness in the shaft. Bought a replacement on Amazon and the problem went away.
I wouldn’t call my A/C “quiet” but it’s certainly better.

I saw those youtube click and I'm thinking about something similar. I have two A/C's in the TT (live in Texas) and they both are duct throughout. When we sleep I turn the bedroom A/C off and let the Living room go through the ducting system. During the day it's a little difficult to cool everything without opening the A/C vent...but being cool is more important than the noise .

Ah, the joys of the weekend warriors. It's fun though and I do enjoy the little things that let me tinker with the TT.

It was very loud inside and outside - sounded like a jet engine.

I install on of these Mach 8 hush kits and it reduced the noise level considerably.

Our bedroom unit is only used for the initial cool down and during the heat of the day. We never use it at night.

After 1 year in my 2017 x23b hybrid, my biggest complaint is the noisy Coleman-Mach 15k btu ac. Both hi and low totally overpower the tv, radio and conversation with the dw. I don't know which model it is but there is no wall t'stat. It REALLY needs a 3rd fan speed. If I trade up to a htt, will ducted ac be any better or just as much noise coming from the overhead unit? Is the whisper quiet just a gimmick name? I been eyeing the White Hawks?

Roc-Reqs, Did the Hush kit help quite a bit with the noise inside the camper? I am not concerned with the noise reduction outside as I do not have neighbors, but the Mach 8 in ur bedroom is so loud I almost hate running it. Thanks

I have the window style ac and it is noisy also. Anyone ever found a way to quiet one of window style down any?

I did some research and they do sell much quieter window style ACs that would really cut down the noise but at the cost of $250 if I do the work.

Saw this on Amazon Noico 80 mil 18 sqft car Sound deadening mat, butyl automotive Sound Deadener, audio Noise Insulation and dampening

A friend had this installed in his car to stop noise and said it worked.
