I hate towing through....

Pretty much any major metropolitan area......

Yeah, that's me, too.

Our southern trip takes us through Indy, Nashville, and Louisville. none of which is all that bad.

We make a point of scheduling our large cities for Saturday, or preferably, Sunday.

There are cities I simply won't tow through. Miami, for one. Haven't been to Dallas, but I'd probably pass on that experience. If I really had to go through one of the mega-cities, I'd probably schedule it for sometime past midnight.

I dislike the large cities enough that I'm willing to concede that there are some place I simply don't need to go.

YMMV.

Living in southern Georgia, every time we had north it's through Atlanta. Best time to drive thru, between 9pm and 5 am.

Chattanooga, TN is a mess with short merge lane from I75 to I24.

Nashville, TN, again a city to drive thru nights and early morning.

Louisville, KY has been a mess due to construction of I65 was under construction last trip and the entry to the bridge over the Ohio River was a pain in the back.

Any trip thru the metro area of Chicago/northern Indiana.

Going west, Memphis, TN, Oklahoma City. There's more, but dinner awaits.

Live 30 miles south of Atlanta all my life. Hate it. We have 5 or 6 trips a year to mountains. Try to leave around 10 after rush hour but it's still heavy. When grandkids go can't leave till they get out of school on Fri. It'll give you road rage. That's why I have big set or air horns.

I 10 through Fontana, Rialto San Bernaedino. Crowded, lots of merging and construction. 101 through San Francisco.

. . . St. Louis!

The lane/exit my GPS tells me to be in is always the one that's closed for construction. I've learned to takeI270/255 around the south side. It's a few miles longer, but is much less congested, so actually takes less time.

JMHO!

The Hampton Roads tunnel. I always seem to have trouble there and today was no exception, tunnel blocked with accident, 45 minute stoppage. 64 in general can be a real PITA with the construction and traffic.

I did not enjoy towing thru Bentonville, Arkansas last summer. There was a ton of construction and lots of narrow lanes with concrete barriers to keep you alert at all times.

If you come through Southern Oregon from Winnemucca NV be careful on Doherty Slide. It did not bother me too much, but the wife said,"NEVER AGAIN."

Was not us in the big rig, just found it on youtube.

If that is the same tunnel I'm thinking of I dread the propane check. There is zero acceleration area to get back into the main line after the check. And to top it off the checkers don't even check they just ask. The toll both attendant could have done that.

Reading all of this I am thankful I live in the West. I don’t have to deal with that much traffic.

Leaving Texas for NC.
Have to go thru Atlanta about 10:00 - 12:00 NOON.
IS IT DO-ABLE ?

depends on the day.. it is doable just plan on taking 4 hours doabling it... I try to go through there after 10pm... good luck

Then you don't visit LA SF or Seattle. or OK City or Amarillo

I'll take the East anytime but do cut off Washington DC

We run from Naples FL to Maine and its easy to go around Charlotte NC, NYC and Boston. ( you'd never know the last two were even within 25 miles). The mountains are glorious north of NYC

The only hiccup is when it snows in Charlotte..

Pretty much any highway that has 95 in it for me. 495, 295, 95 all are nightmares. NYC, DC, Providence, Baltimore, Richmond bypass on a weekend during summer all have the worst traffic.

The only way I can deal with it is by leaving before the birds get up, the way back home is always a stress fest.

I have to say one of my favorite roads on the East Coast is 81 at present. Good stops, low traffic and no tolls.
