Ideas for Bunk Bed Containment?

I have a 2 year old who likes to hop out of the bottom bunk and run around at all hours of the night. I thought about installing a bed rail but I know he will just climb over it. Any ideas? Thought about installing some type of removable netting connected to hooks.. Not sure if that would hold him in or not.

LOL...just kidding, I know the feeling, I had one of those,,,, took the action-consequence approach with him..it worked over time..

We have a similar issue. I too thought of netting or some other barrier but then I thought what if there is an emergency and I need to get him out…I wouldn't want a barrier in my way.

At this point I think we are just going to deal with it for a while and make sure we secure drawers and cabinets where he could hurt himself if by chance he got up and we didn't hear him.

That was my first thought. I have 3 year old twin boys in a pop up so we have similar problems. At home they are great and sleep in the same room with no problem. No so much camping because they are so excited by the new experience. We currently split them up into the beds and one parent sleeps there with them. So far it works for us. Maybe this year will be better.

I was able to use one of those compression type baby gates, available from Toys R Us or Walmart or whatever. But you have to have a lip to attach it to. Ours had to be flipped upside down to work. Also, one thing that happened to us that was a major issue (although no injuries were sustained) was that our daughter pushed it over. So we added some strings with little clips to attach to the gate. Worked well last year when the little one was 1.5. Seen some really cool mods with slide in crib type railings. Good luck. Not sure what we'll do when little one #2 comes along and #1 moves to the top bunk.

We use an "under the mattress" bed rail in the upper bunk for our 7 yr old, and a pool noodle along the edge of the bottom bunk under the fitted sheet for our 5 yr old. Does not prevent them from getting out, but does keep them from falling out while they sleep. We used a compression type baby gate in our previous camper to completely block off the tent end of our hybrid. (baby gate fit into closet rod brackets screwed to the wall to make sure kids could not push down the gate)

Kids and rule ... they'll push our buttons every time!

As a toddler, our son was a 'middle-of-the night bed crawler' from his to ours so in the tent-trailer we used the netted containment solution (above image). THAT was the least of our worries! When camping in Big Basin State Park in CA, he and I walked the perimeter of our site (very woodsy area with creeks and poison oak) dragging a stick so he knew the boundary. I then told him he could play anywhere within this area OR if he violated it - time-out! I stepped into our rig to fix lunch AND keep an eye on him and of course, the independent child he is, immediately he trotted off-and-beyond the designated perimeter. SO out I went to retrieve him and place him into his tiny camp chair under one of the extended beds (not an exciting place to be) and told him "your butt is GLUED to that chair until time-out is over". Smart kid, no sooner did I step back inside the rig, then off he went - holding the chair "glued to his butt"; we (silently) laughed so hard that it took us a while until we could retrieve him and set a new rule! Note to all: the way they are as tots certainly remains once they achieve adulthood, at 26 he still pushes the envelope (thank goodness ;-) )!
