In motion Starlink mount

Finally figured out a simple setup for Starlink in motion use. I didn’t want to roof mount it as I like it portable for tree covered areas, some have had success just setting the dish in the front bunk with coaches with a front window but with no window, the results were not great. It happens that the Gen2 dish is the same size as the shower skylight, so I started by using bungee cords to test the result and in testing I would get 100-200 mbps going down the road. I ended up replacing the screws holding the skylight cover on and using nutserts in the aluminum frame and then installed the cover with stainless eyes which will stay installed. I designed a frame for the dish to set in and then it is hung with hooks and threaded links on the frame. Since I used a waterproof cable port on the outside of the coach for my pole mount, I just used the same port in the bathroom which runs to an A-B switch by the router to select either the outside port or the bathroom port. Works great and takes about 30 seconds to put up and plug in. This will be nice for any overnight rest area or parking lot stops as I didn’t feel safe putting it outside.

That is a great idea... I wish our FK had the big Skylight, or we would be building ours tonight...

I don’t know what shape your skylight is, but you could prop or hold it up there to give it a try, you might still get enough signal to it even it it doesn’t have full view. There have also been people having success just setting the dish up on the front bunk and getting signal through the roof. If you have the Gen2 motorized dish, there is now a setting in the app to set the dish to Flat mode so it points straight up.

Ours is essentially a triangular shape, not nearly large enough to allow even 80% of dishy to see outside. Our shower is the corner unit with the curved glass doors.
