We have a 2 year old AGM battery for the house (2017 Redhawk ) that the KIB info panel showed at blinking 3 pips charge after 1 week plugged in. Took it to AutoZone and battery 100% charge. So, before putting the battery back in, I checked the panel and lo and behold, without a battery, showed the same blinking 3rd pip. Now how can that be? I know enough not to rely on the gauges to show accurate tanks, but this is the first time I have had a fault show on the battery. What to do?? Replace the whole panel? Get a different gauge for just the battery? Troubleshoot??

Was it plugged in to shower power? If so, that's why it's showing battery voltage, because the converter is powering the 12V system.

This should really be under bonehead moment. I trusted hubby’s info….Yup…It was plugged into shore power so obviously read! Plus…he was pushing the tank readings and reporting it as battery readings!. At what point are hubbies too old to ……?????

. At what point are hubbies too old to ……?????

I can answer that. We should be put out to Stud around 55 or so.
Then a quick trip to the glue factory around, umm...

No, wait...
I've got that wrong.

That is the result of autocorrect without proofreading I'm hoping. If that was the intention, I have no idea.

Presumably meant "Shore power" aka the grid. plugged in at home or a campsite.

Probably meant "flower power". If you know that term you are indeed old and decrepit like I am.

Not bonehead at all-still an issue

Well, let’s try this again… AGM battery is 100% charged at 14.5. We are plugged into home power, 15 or 20 amp, yet indicator lights will show 1 in the morning and 2-3 later in the day. Running Max air fan in bathroom 25/7. When I extend the awning, it goes free and willingly. To return it, it barely moves and I get a battery beep!. Start generator while still plugged in and it winds up just fine. Progressive EMS reads all good. It seems that even while plugged in, the unit is using the battery??

What is this?

LOL!!

I must have been sick! I'm usually pretty good with proofreading my posts, but I went through a few weeks where I was making all kinds of typos.

I obviously meant "flower power"!! LOL!!

shore power. looks like that was right...

Do you have a voltage meter? If not then having one could provide a better understanding of what is happening and it is certainly possible your battery needs to be replaced. I will add that while in most cases a battery is not required when being plugged into shore power, the battery still will provide current whenever the load on the 12v system exceeds what can be provided by the converter. Many RV's recommend for example not to use the jacks, slides, and other high draw items without a battery connected. ~CA

would the Maxxair, then retracting the awning deplete the 12V that much??The awning went out fast…but then during the night, its just the max air running and depleting the battery to 12.4. Thank you for your input. I ordered a replacement converter for the Progressive 60 am power center (accommodated lithium should we decide to go that way). The installer will check out the electrical system further. we are heading out for 3 months next week so want to get this tightened up.

Update

Hope we haven’t been scammed, but RV place says both house and chassis battery need replacing (also said we should have a 27 battery in house, not 22 that we have had.) And also the converter was bad so replaced. Batteries were both 3 years old…and living in Las Vegas, hat’s about all you can expect on a battery…sometimes only 2 years.

Maybe a few things for next time

Converters have fuses in case you hook up reverse polarity. Fuse blows, no battery charging. Fuses are a lot cheaper than the whole unit.

Running maxair 24/7 would use substantial power. Converter 'should' probably supply adequately, but if battery is weak to begin with possibly not.

Group 22 battery seems too small.

How much time between extended and retracted? Again converter, if working , should suffice but only if it is working correctly.

What other things are you using that are drawing power. Refrigerator, lights, TV antenna amplifier, water heater, thermostat all draw 12 volts
