For years I have wanted to inspect my 11 year old MorRyde rubber pin box. I always touched up the paint but could not see some places inside. I looked online at the directions for replacing the bottom part with the Anderson hitch adapter RPB77-006 which is a beefed up skid plate that the recommended for owners who use the Anderson Ultimate hitch.
When I took it apart it was easy to see that my original was made of thinner metal and did not provide as much support as the new skid plate. ( see pic 2); I did not see any damage to the skid plate that I have towed with the Anderson hitch for 18 months other then rust.

The rubber spring looked like new with no cracks or corrosion.

My old skid plate was very rusty and pitted. I ordered the new hitch adapter and installed it last week. (Pic 1)

We will be towing it in the next few weeks and I will post if it feels any different under tow than the old one. The new skid plate has 4 blocks in it that reduce the side to side movement of the pin box, other than that it is just thicker.

Thanks, and I think you mentioned it was a very straightforward install as well. Looking forward to your impressions of it. I may order it anyways, as I am towing a heavier FW

Just went out and took pictures of mine, and unless I am mistaken, it has this Skid plate already installed from the factory? You tell me

No, If it had the upgraded skid plate there would be 2 bolts on each side that holds the blocks in place to stop the hitch side to side motion. Look at my pic and see the 2 bolts and washers on the side shown.

The best price I found was Amazon.

Ok, I see it now. Thanks

The Anderson hitch was buckling the thinner wall plates. The reinforcement is suppose to stop that problem but some folks have reported issues with the thicker plates. More than likely due to heavier 5th wheels…. Just one of manny issues with the ole’ Anderson…. Stay light, and you’ll be all right.

Okay, now you got me thinking now I might have to look in to this it does look thicker.

And you said that it was an easy install?

I put that part number in on Amazon and it want let me buy it there, maybe I will go to Tweetys.com and get it.

That’s a great review! Did you get pics of the rubber shear block and/or the nylon “skid spacers”? I have a mor-ryde box too but not the Anderson and have wondered about the durability of both wear components. Did the new plate include the nylon pieces or rubber block? How heavy is the plate?
Thanks for your data!

I have observed some light cracks from top to bottom of the front nylon bushings. My Jayco is a 2021. I also believe the angle of my arm (for lack of a proper word) is wrong. The truck bed (Ram 2500) is level but the bottom of the hitch is downward. I believe this is placing extra stress on the front bushings. Thoughts? Thanks for any input.

a lot of reports of Anderson flexing and bending the support plate, even the upgraded version. You can bet if that much stress is applied to the metal portions, the plastic bushings will not fair well. Amazing what forces of leverage will do. Just think whats happening in areas you can't see, hidden behind sheets of all that fiber covering. Now you know why TT manufactures are voiding warrantees if Andersons are used to tow. Hmmmmmm.

I didn't take picture of the rubber spring but I have seen lots of them and this one was in pristine shape. I talked with MorRyde CS Ryan Holmes and described the round nylon bushings suggesting I would replace them if needed. He said only needed if pieces were broken off so I did not order them. The 4 stability pads look to me like they also take some stress off the round pads and also keep the side to side movement at a minimum.

MorRyde makes the Adapter but does not sell it to the public. I priced mine with several sources and Amazon was the least expensive. The frame on my Jayco is made by Dexter and it is solid. My old plate was not bent or damaged in any way, just 11 years old and rusty. Looking at the new one compared to the old one and it is heavier, thicker and had more welds and bracing than the original. I have towed my rig with the original setup for over a year.

I will be giving it a real world test this weekend.

Here is a link to the adapter from the MorRyde site: If you are using the Anderson Ultimate, there is zero welding. It is completely bolt on. I installed it by myself in just a few hours. https://www.morryde.com/products/gooseneck-adapter-rpb77-006/

:)Do you think that maybe dissimilar metal corrosion caused by the aluminum Andersen hitch reacting with the steel MorRyde might have contributed to the advanced degradation?:)

No it was used for 10+ years before I started using the Anderson. I had never taken it apart before and was curious. I intended to just sand and refinish the surface rust but decided to replace it while it was apart.

Well the happy faces in my post were a hint that I was just doing the responsible thing by going bonkers anytime someone mentions the A....... U....... Hitch.
Just kidding about the metal thing.

But seriously, the new plate looks really substantial.

Anderson is a reputable company that has been making the AUH for years. I have been completely happy with mine. We are leaving on a 4 day trip this week and I plan to see how if any different the rig feels with this addition. Another 2 week trip to Florida later in January also so I will have a better feel for what if any difference it makes in my towing experience.

When I bought mine, I talked with many who owned them and disregard the naysayers who tend to knock every comment on the product.

Great, yes please sir let us know how it goes. Be safe and safe travel to you and your family, I wish we could go somewhere but here it's still cold and the passes is snow in, bummer.

This post is quite old but looking for some info on how bad my scenario is now with the Anderson Ultimate 5th wheel hitch assembly and the existing puck style MoRyde 5th wheel hitch that wasn't changed out to the adapter.
Previous owner of my North Point 377RLBH, 14K totally empty with 16,5 Gross

Lately, after a year of me pulling this, the original hitch is sliding pretty aggresively forward/back depending on me stopping or taking off. I really feel the jerk of it sliding now/lately.
Is this a SERIOUS matter? Am I about to lose my 5'r while on the road?

I need to get this adapter but finances aren't really all that wonderful at the time. How serious is this?
anyone... anyone.... anyone.... ?
