Issues with Awning 2 on NorthPoint with JCommand BMPRO Connect

My awning 2 does not have 12V on retract. Jayco says I need a new NODE which I assume is a costly part since it is the brains for the JCommand BMPRO system. Anyone out there had or have a similiar issue? If in fact the node does need replacement and since nothing else controller by the node is not working, I would be tempted to just bypass the node for this awning and install a separate switch like the good old days.

yep, it happens. Relay fails inside the node for the awning. Supposedly it has been fixed after a recent revision of the node. You can swap the wires on the node if you need to retract the awning. After you swap the wires it will work in reverse...you would press extend to retract the awning. Just FYI for emergency use. I will too probably just put a manual switch in the basement storage if this happens to me.

you may want to email BmPRO from the link on their website. They have been known to work with people outside of warranty for known issues.

Definitely will do the switch if the node needs to be replaced.

We had same issue with our Jayco I figured out a way to get it back in to travel home and sure enough replacing the node took care of the issue

I'm not sure if it was on the jayco owners forum or on the 377rlbh Facebook group I'm in, but I've definitely seen a post where they replaced the relay. There were part numbers and pictures in the post.

We have a 2020 and the #2 awning has the same problem. I just bypassed it with a double pole, double throw switch and put it in the basement next to the light.

i did that and they only offered to sell me a new node. separate switch is probably my go to for now.

Yes more than likely a node and it runs about 900.00 and yes you could bypass that with just a switch. What I did mine was under warranty and after replacing I found out that the relay’s inside the node are 20 amp so I put in line with all the motor driven circuits a 15 amp automatic reset circuit breakers for each. Has been working fine but if the circuit draws to much the node is protected.

I had both awnings fail I just put 2 switches next to light in basement compartment. When I checked I was told I needed a new node at $900 plus install.

This is the inside of node, only 20 amp relays that’s why I installed 15amp circuit breakers to protect them next will be you slides ,

This is the breakers I put in you need two for each motor
Don't know why you would need two for each motor, unless you are worried about shorting?
Doubt this will stop them from failing. JMHO
Also, the newer units have upgraded relays.

You need two because I don’t know if you realize node switches voltage from positive to negative depending on motor direction. As far as new models upgraded that’s on you, mine is 2021. Just trying to help the ones that failed and want to protect them next will ones that are left. And as far as doubting the 15 amp breaker won’t work it is less than the relays can’t take so yes it would.

This also happened to our 2023 RLTS. Luckily, the BMPro node was replaced under warranty. During my research, I did learn of another solution that I didn't see mentioned here.

There is a spare relay on the BMPro node that you can move the awning wires to and remap on the BMPro. I believe they have a video of this process available on their website. The result is a little clunky but it's free. And you can still extend/retract the awning via the BMPro (including the app).

Personally I don't believe they are failing due to current or the relays burning up due to current. Ours failed after travel days and sitting and not being used. Awning 1 worked fine for a 10 day trip and was rolled up before pulling up camp. Dropped off at our storage lot and when pulled out a couple weeks later for the next trip it wouldn't extend but would retract. Did a work around so I could have awning 1 work for the trip. The trip was 7 days and awning 1 worked perfectly with my work around as well as awning 2. Parked again for several weeks and when pulled out to prep for the next trip awning 2 wouldn't extend but would retract. Same exact issue as what happened with awning 1. Again did a work around so we had both awnings function for the trip. My thought is that the relays they used for the awnings can't handle the vibrations that are being placed on them while going down the road or that they are mounted vertically on the board and not horizontally and randomly failed due to internal parts breaking.

My final fix for this was to use my extended warranty and have the node replaced with the updated version as well as replacing the tablet with the non-battery version and a few other small things to make it work it and replaced everything myself.

Can you explain what your work around was? Thanks.
