jayco 1207 no hot water pressure.

I have a new to me 2010 jayco 1207. My hot water heater works. I just don't get any to my sink.I have all the shut off valve where they should be but it seems like no water is getting in the water heater. Cold water works fine. If I open the middle shut off valve I get water coming out the hot water side at the sink but of course it isn't hot because it is mixed with cold water. The dealer said to open the relief valve at the water heater but I get water for about 5 seconds them nothing. Any ideas?

Maybe a bad valve on the inlet side to the HW heater or orifice plugged?

I just figured these 1/4 turn valves are so simple they wouldn't fail. I am taking it back to the dealer in8 days but was hoping to fix it sooner to go camping.

A friend of mine had a bypass valve fail. I would not run the cold water heater until you are sure the water heater is full of water.

My suspicions is the bypass valves (clogged / damaged)...but you could try something - have you tried HW Heater cold flush???? a) HW Heater OFF b) closing all inside faucets after all water pressure is taken off the system c) taking out the HW Drain plug and d) slowly turning on the exterior city water connection?....drain it into a bucket and see if you can capture any debris.

I will try that. I tried removing the HW drain plug yesterday and was really tight and difficult to get to but I guess its worth a try.

It's unlikely that the bypass valve on the inlet valve has failed. These are pretty tough and don't get that much use. Also, the inlet plumbing to the wH is 1/2" tubing, so it's also unlikely that there is a blockage there.

If your system has only one bypass valve, you have a check valve on the output of the WH. These are notorious for failing. It actually looks like a pipe nipple, but it has a little flapper assembly inside. I removed the innards on mine and installed a manual T-valve where there was just a T on the output side. If you do this, you have to remove the insides of the valve and reuse it. You can't just use a pipe nipple because one end of the one-way has a bevel edge that accommodates a seal.

I would check the positions of the HOT WATER HEATER BYPASS values...

If these are still in BYPASS mode then water will not fill up inside the heater to be heated. This may also destroy your elements inside the heater if it is fired up without water in it.

I thought I had diagrams handy for one value and two valve model bypass valves positions.

The clue might be is when you opened the relief value. It should spray a whole bunch if the water heater has water in it and pressured up.

I just had the cold water in valve fail on mine and had to replace. The valve was stuck closed.

I just drained the hw heater and it was full. I left the drain plug out and turned on the city water and nothing came out the hw drain. It appears no water is going in the hw heater. My bypass valves are in the correct position to fill it up. I am clueless. I guess its off to the dealer where I bought it.

Got camper back from dealer. They said I had bypass valves (3) n wrong position. I got it home and they had them in the wrong position. They had the middle valve open. I am so mad. I have to tow it back to them. I will never buy from them again. They said they check all appliances before I bought it. Apparently not.

Why would you have to tow it back to them. Reach in and turn the valve to the correct position. If the valve handle is parallel to the pipe, then it is in the open position, perpendicular is closed.

I have to tow it back to them because it is under warranty and with the valves in the correct position I have no hot water flowing.

Just to finish up the thread. Dealer finally fixed it. The bottom bypass valve was bad.
